Puros Y Vino Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Unofficial FOH Toronto Mega-Herf II Details: Date: Saturday July 28, 2012. Pre Herf Time: 1PM to 5PM Official Mega Herf time: 5PM & onwards. Venue: The Mambo Lounge. 120 Danforth Ave. Toronto. Cost: $65 (includes taxes & gratuities) Greetings all. Major update on the herf pricing. As stated above, the price per person is now $65 (taxes and gratuities included) This is down from $95 from where we first started. And for those of you who attended last years herf, yes the price has gone up. But in a way it really hasn't. Last years' ticket was "heavily" subsidized by a few BOTL. Going forward, that's not the way we want to conduct things. That gesture was "epic" but it's not sustainable. Fortunately, we managed to bring costs down thanks to the generosity of some local and international sponsorship. And let's not forget, a major part of this event is to raise money for charity. Please note: Whether you intend to come for a few hours or the whole night the price remains the same. We can't manage variable pricing. It's not fair to everyone. The offical Herf start time is 5PM. Pre Herf is from 1 - 4PM. Your $65 covers from 5PM and onwards and includes all the "swag" listed. What's included: (aka what do I get for $65?) Exclusive use of the Mambo Lounge from 1PM - Closing (FYI. We "closed" @ 3:15AM last year). We have the whole place to ourselves. Inside and out. Drop in for a drink, lunch and a smoke, maybe take a walk and then come back for the "official" start. Or just stay there all day if you wish. Cuban Tapas Cuban Carnivale dinner (see below for details) Cuban entertainment. Music and dancing. (amended, see below) Toronto Mega-Herf T-Shirt (courtesy of Czar/FOH) Swag bag (courtesy of La Casa Del Habanos). One complimentary cigar. Pre Herf Itinerary: 1 - 5PM1:00PM. Doors open. For those of you who wanted to do a pre-herf, the Mambo has agreed to an early start. If you're coming early, food and drinks are pay your own way.Andres, the owner of the Mambo is offering up his Prix Fixe Lunch for $25 cash. All in. The menu choices are below. One Starter / One Main / One Dessert for $25. Please ensure you are in by this time at the very latest. The Mambo is going to close the doors to ensure no walk-in's from the street occur. This is for our sake. We're going to have all kinds of valuables laying around so locking the door is going to help prevent theft. If you are in dire straits and will be late, I will provide a few cell #'s you can call so we can meet you at the door. But please, do try to get in by 6PM at the latest. 7:30PM: Dinner will be served. It will be a Cuban Carnivale style buffet. Just like last year. After dinner: Cigar smoking to your heart's content!! (NOTE: So there's no confusion. You can smoke all you want from 1PM to close) Walk around, get to catch up with old friend and meet new ones. And definitely stop by the auction and prize table. 10:00PM: "Last Call" for silent auctions & raffles. 10:30PM: The conclusion of silent auctions & raffles. The menu includes: Mains: Cuban style, whole roasted pig Chicken Salmon Side Dishes: rice, beans, salad, congri, steamed vegetables, plantains and yuca Entertainment: UPDATE: Elmer Ferrer will NOT be performing due to a miscommunication between musician and vendor. In addition, the Cuban dancer will also, NOT be performing. Auctions & Prizes: We are going to be conducting silent auctions for various cigars and cigar related items. jrb5783 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 when can reserve rooms and is the park hyatt the closest hotel to the mambo lounge
Puros Y Vino Posted June 29, 2012 Author Posted June 29, 2012 when can reserve rooms and is the park hyatt the closest hotel to the mambo lounge Not close. But it's a 10 minute subway ride away. For the out of towners, I'll prep a PDF with maps and instructions as the date approaches. The PH is nice because it's located in a very "hip" part of town. Toronto's equivalent of LA's Rodeo Drive. Great for people watching. Plus, the PH rooftop is cigar friendly and the view is awesome.
maverickdrinker Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Thats "good" news??? So far, 2 nights and tix add up to $450....can somebody please tell me what section of town the Mambo is so that I can find a closer, far more affordable hotel. Mambo lounge is on the Danforth in Greektown. The main intersection is Broadview and Danforth. FYI, The Park Hyatt rate is ususally significantly higher. You are coming to Toronto in high season. The Park Hyatt is a 5 star rated hotel and is rated one of the top 30 hotels in Canada. you won't stay at ANY hotel of this caliber for that price in the city. Feel free to book where you see fit.
maverickdrinker Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Jace, PM sent. For those who were looking to book at the Park Hyatt, please post here that you are going to book and pm me directly for further instructions. Frank will be editing the initial Toronto HERF II thread as well to do this. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Toronto HERF. A

FWIW, a lot of guys needing a hotel can split a room to divvy up costs. Unless you're bringing your SO, consider it. And to what Art says, July is high season in Toronto. The PH is a nice hotel and it's conveniently located in case you wanted to explore the city. Plus. It is 10 mins away from the Mambo. Cheers
IcedCanuck Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 wait you can still smoke on patios in toronto? Damn thats awesome Ottawa just banned it. They banned it a couple months ago but are only issuing verbal warnings until July 2. I have found two bars in the market that have been ignoring it for now.
IcedCanuck Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Anyone staying in a hotel should also remember that parking may or may not be included. Make sure you look into it to avoid any 'surprises'.
riazp Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 wow looking at that picture makes me realise the weight i've lost...i'll be there but the belly will not be
TWalker Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 makes me realise the weight i've lost...i'll be there but the belly will not be Don't worry, I found it. I'll be bringing it with me if you want it back...
maverickdrinker Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 I can understand that some people may have some trepidation now, in terms of costs however, one of the things that we referred to was the cost to attend the Montreal HERF, where over 20 BOTLs from Toronto, Rochester and San Diego attended. Overall, the costs are in line to the Montreal HERF, in terms of travel to the city, hotel room, dinner, cabs to various venues, etc. I think everyone can appreciate that to put on something like this does cost money as well as volunteer time the organizers put in. We are still negotiating other things for the event however, we felt it was important to get out the initial information as people were asking for it. We hope to announce even more additional things in the near future. If anyone has any questions or concerns that need to be addressed, please pm Frank or I directly. No need to air grievences on this thread as it fragments the spirit of both the HERF that is being put together and the charity we are supporting.

I think we should be thanking Art, Frank, Lisa and others for taking the time to organise and negociate prices for us. I for one am very much looking foward to this.
Diamondog Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 youre not going to find much cheaper for a hotel....especially with proximity....even the dumps on the outskirts will run up there and add 30-60 min travel time....try price line maybe 2 star...
Ophidion Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 My father and I will be booking at the park hyatt. Sent Art a PM.
