Taking a quick break from studying for my final Navy Examination board coming on June 18th......I checked into the Whisky Advocate blog for a look at what the latest news in whisky is.....

After a slight bit of sadness for not living near an Ardbeg Embassy (I would have LOVED to try that Ardbeg Day special whisky release......) I scrolled down and found an entry about Dalmore's new release of whiskies, Dalmore Constellation.

Well, nothing new here, New releases are coming out all the time.....but what floored me was this lil' bit -

"Prices start at around $3,200 for the entry level 1992 (yes, $3,200 for a 20 year old whisky) and rise to approximately $32,000 (not a typo) for the 1964. So you probably won’t be buying any, but Dalmore say they expect to ship 20,000 bottles over the next five years."

$3200 for a #$%&ing 20 year old Scotch?!?!?!?! When I paid $60 for 18 Yr Laphroaig in New Orleans?!?!? Are these cretins out of their minds? :cowpoop::mob:

Stuff like this makes me sick. It's ruining Whisky for producers to continuously blow prices way out of proportion, to the point where regular folks who like decent, regular priced whisky can't afford their favorite dram anymore. Dalmore has raised their prices across the board already, but this is insanity.....what are they thinking?

Anyway - that's my rant for today. Time for a RA Mille Fleur to calm me down!

It all goes to China now, just like the top of the range Range Rovers, Rolls Royce, Bentley etc

Remember the Chinese RE last year? :D

The big money has moved from Europe and the US now to China. All the luxury brands in the West are simply catering to it.

When your economy is truly run by robber barons cum political aparatchiks, being at the top of a smaller economy (and much smaller economy per capita), matters less.

Sounds awfully familiar......

assume special factors like rarity and extra special quality etc etc are involved, but yes, crazy prices. but in reality a completely different market than for the usual malt drinker. for squillionaires or collectors or tossers. but it really shouldn't make that much different to the ordinary malt prices. if those get too exy, people move to a better value competitor.

People will pay outrageous amounts of money for anything that's limited. When I used to collect sneakers some went as high as almost 5 digits, so I'm sure to someone who is rich and loves whiskys this is nothing to them..

A fool and his money are soon parted.

Here's some more overly expensive grogg.

They can have the freakin' $3200 Scotch. Just give back the vintage Port!
