strayvector Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 WOW! Still catching my breath following the most incredible 2 minutes in recent sports history.
rckymtn22 Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Sweet, nice to see another team win the Premier League besides Man U!
OZCUBAN Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Yes Have been waiting for a long long time for this now ,great news and well deserved ,last time this happened I was four years old I bet the better half of Manchester is going Balistic OZ
Ken Gargett Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 woke up to find out if the gunners snuck in to 3rd for the champions next year. the rest is cream. can't work out if i would prefer chelsea to kock spurs out of that last spot or not. and then checked the man c scores. 3-2. well, that was a bit close and then saw the timing of the goals. wow! i see fergie was his usual gracious self (the joey barton of managers?). no if you'll excuse me, i have a number of mates who are rabid man u fans and they havve been emailing me all year about how they were certain to win. even last week....
El Presidente Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Still crying. 25 years of disappointment and then in true City style.....almost stole defeat from the jaws of victory in a classic city shot to the foot They the most Sublime extra time 3 minutes in Football history.
Ken Gargett Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 They the most Sublime extra time 3 minutes in Football history. did you miss the roar's finish last season?
El Presidente Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 did you miss the roar's finish last season? Yes...good comparison. However, outside of Brisbane and "Central Coast Somewhere" .....no one cares.
asmith Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Yeah Liverpool 8th, Fantastic season loosing in the final game to produce the worst season for them since 1962. Almost makes me want to support another team.
winelover Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Congrats Oz, Pres and all other long standing City fans. One of the bet premierships ever and I'm already looking forward to next season. Whilst City are good and winning the title will be good experience, ecpect another very tight campaign next season - no cake walk (although some pundits are heralding the new dawn of City dominance! - I guess time will tell).
CaptainQuintero Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 City deserved it. Even with the Tevez situation, any team can't expect to win the title while playing Johnny Evans at CB for the season! Mancini showed his class being able to bring together essentially a squad of mercenaries and turn them into a team, fantastic manager Honourable mention to Swansea, fantastic football played all season! Player of the season for me- Yaya Toure Team of the season: ...................................Hart..................................... ....K-Walker.........Kompany..................Ivanovic..........A-Cole...... ....Valencia.........Y-Toure..................Scholes...........Bale........ ......................Rooney...................Aguero....................... Manager-Mancini Worst team of the season-Liverpool for me (Sorry Smithy!) £200m spent and very poor season, Everton's ifnish above them with their financial situation is damning. Not even mentioning the whole Suarez deal :S Looking forward to see what big names will be coming in over the summer although I suspect due to the Euros and Olympics (Not to mention the financial fair play regulations) it may end up being pretty quiet.
Ken Gargett Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Yes...good comparison. However, outside of Brisbane and "Central Coast Somewhere" .....no one cares. actually, i didn't think anyone inside cared either. about four schoolkids and a few deluded souls who think that one day, we'll win the soccer world cup.
Ken Gargett Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Team of the season: ...................................Hart..................................... ....K-Walker.........Kompany..................Ivanovic..........A-Cole...... ....Valencia.........Y-Toure..................Scholes...........Bale........ ......................Rooney...................Aguero....................... Manager-Mancini so van persie doesn't get a mention? one off the all time record for goals in a season? the one single player who dragged a dire gunners team from the toilet to 3rd and guaranteed champions? rest of his team largely very ordinary. and with respect to mancini, that payroll and that team, blind freddie could have won the thing. i would question how he let that big lead slip and went so close to losing it, the mess with several players that he clearly can't control. he was probably 60 seconds from getting the sack and what happened in those 60 seconds had bugger all to do with him. much as i dislike fergie, i really do admire what he achieved. redknapp a contender till spurs collapsed. wenger, after the disastrous start, the endless injuries (as did man u) and the disruption from loss of players, achieved a remarkable result. for me, wenger or fergie (but i do not like fergie so wenger).
CaptainQuintero Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Forgot about VP! I'd take him over Aguero based on this season but on the last what, 8 seasons I'd leave him out. Wenger deserves a lot of credit for what he's achieved, although give him the average Man U team from this year I don't think he would have done as well as Fergie has, Not sure he has the man management to have put Man City where they finished either. Mancini I still think has done an amazing job, ignoring the bankrolling which all the big teams get I think the list of managers who could have done the same would be pretty short. I would like to have seen Tevez sit in the reserves for the next four years but it obviously looks like the owners put the pressure on, either to get their money's worth or to enable him to get sold this summer. Talking about bankrolling, Daglish spending the reported £200m isn't being talked about enough. £20m for DOWNING!!! not being the least of the shocks. Then again, the way the players and fans treated Hodgson they don't deserve anything more than where they finished. Fergie (apart from playing Johhny Evans) managed to again overachieve with a very average squad. Although I think the future at Old Traford will be pretty dark unless some major investment is made. Rooney only stayed last season because he was assued top class players would be brought in. Still think Moyes does an amazing job every year, realistically he outperforms all the managers in the EPL on such a shoestring budget and manages to play great football. I think when Fergie does quit it will be between Moyes and Mourinho for his seat. Maybe Mourinho for the short term (As he wants to retire in a few years) and Moyes for the long term? Just realised I've started covering about 20 topics so will finish this waffle here

Just realised I've started covering about 20 topics so will finish this waffle here you forgot VP! a lot of gunners fans are hoping that all the other deep pocket teams will do the same. think we'll be very lucky to keep him. get a lot of conflicting reports. otherwise, pretty much agree with what you say though less fussed about what mancini achieved. really dislike fergie but credit where it is due. i did think it was a lesser man u side and they went so close. and i agree that the future might not be so rosy for them. a lot for arsenal depends on van p staying though it seems that they might be bringing a few in. hard to see the special one ever retiring??? liverpool were shocking - and catching smithy for a cigar review this arvo so perfect timing. spurs an odd season. went from overachieving to underperforming. next year for them might depend on chelsea v bayern. and that will also tell for chelsea's season. hard to see spurs keeping and attracting the ebst if out of champions. easier for chelsea as a big wallet but still tough to attract the best if they know they are out of the top comp. as for those tossing about the idea of changing teams because they are not successful (amithy, you know who you are), suck it up! what are you, 12? pretty much every team i follow has gone through lengthy horror stretches. part of sport. hell, cop being a skins fan. 20 years of crap. all of which is about to change.....
El Presidente Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 so van persie doesn't get a mention? one off the all time record for goals in a season? the one single player who dragged a dire gunners team from the toilet to 3rd and guaranteed champions? rest of his team largely very ordinary. Van Persie a definite. and with respect to mancini, that payroll and that team, blind freddie could have won the thing. i would question how he let that big lead slip and went so close to losing it, the mess with several players that he clearly can't control. he was probably 60 seconds from getting the sack and what happened in those 60 seconds had bugger all to do with him. Disagree. He had a dysfunctional squad (Baloteli) to deal with and is still inexperienced in the EPL. City could have crashed and burned after the Arsenal result. Instead, he kept their minds togehter and they pulled back 8 points on MU. Knowing he needed height in the goal area he put on Dzeko which pulled the first injury time goal back. Good management. The team did not disintegrate in the final 5 even with the immense pressue of failure (a history of it) staring them in the face. That isn't done without an excellent manager. much as i dislike fergie, i really do admire what he achieved. redknapp a contender till spurs collapsed. wenger, after the disastrous start, the endless injuries (as did man u) and the disruption from loss of players, achieved a remarkable result. for me, wenger or fergie (but i do not like fergie so wenger). Fergies disasterous mismanagement of the Man U/Man City games this year rules him out. The first 6 goal rout at Old Trafford largely cost them the Goal Difference parity with City. The second defensive mindset let City in the contest. A draw would have finished City. Even at 1-0, MU were never in it with only 2 shots on goal. Wenger had a great year. David Moyes was brilliant at Everton given what he had to play with.
Ken Gargett Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 in a billion dollar league, some bloke puts a tall player on the field and he is manager of the year? seriously? agree with you about fergie at the end. had man u not imploded then mancini would be polishing the cv. look at some of the great coaches/managers over the years. would it have ever got near the mess of batolli and tevez? not a chance. i know you are all pumped up about the result (and those of us who detest man u are just as delighted) but a spoonful of reality might assist. that last five minutes comes down to the calibre of the players on the field. hardly came after a half time speech. should never have got near that. had his players not bailed him out, he was a dud. i can see that the delight of man c and gunners fans, tearing apart smithy and liverpool, the state of origin teams, the reds glorious comeback win - we are going to need one seriously big cigar for today's review!

As much as I am an admirer of Wenger......is not the last Arsenal piece of Silverware the 2005 FA cup? Even with the talent of Fab, Nasri etal at his disposal? While he plasters your bedroom ceiling next to "the Boss"....a spoonful of reality might assist
Ken Gargett Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 we, at the man c nursery, feel that is most churlish of you. it is a bit like first world nations dumping on the third world - lord knows what that makes most of the rest of them. we had nasri for about 6 games before he was pinched. the fab fab spent the last three years as a complete crock. and trust me, you will never EVERknow what is in, or happens, in my bedroom. ever at least we share with man c, the joy of snatching a trophy out from man u at the last moment. that FA cup, whenever it was, was surely one of the most one-sided games ever with a totally unfair result. man u were so much the better side on the day and we only stayed in it thanks to great keeping from lehmann. then the penalty shoot-out. just loved it. no better way to beat man u than in the last seconds.
Dimmers Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Stunning final round, congrats to City. Joey Barton is a piece of work going Chuck Norris on half City's squad - Tevez elbow, Ageuro 'sweep the leg', Kompany near headbutt. And then attempting a crack at Baeolotelli as he's being herded off the field. Awesome. Its like he is already position for a role in Guy Ritchies next flick. +1 Bayern FTW!
mazolaman Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Mancini is a good, brave, manager. He proved this by having the balls to sell Robinho (Man Cities star signing) as soon as he got there. Fergusson is still the best manager in League football, it pains me to say. Anyway..... No mention of Newcastle?????? Proper football team. Sold wisely, scouted brilliantly, and bought even wiser. No massive egos. No massive spending. A lot of attractive football. Manager of the season. Excellent season, by means of talent, good management, and effort.....NOT MONEY!
CaptainQuintero Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 hard to see the special one ever retiring??? It will be a sad day indeed! I know he is a love or hate character but I love him! I've seen quite a few interviews where he has said that he plans to have no more than ten more years in football before he retires and then spend all his time with his family. Can't fault him for that at all. He's said he will be the Portugal manager as his last job to so I'm guessing (As he's best buds with Sir Alex) he will stay at Madrid until Fergie tells him his is going then he will hope across to the red side of Manchester for three or four years, win some silverwear then take Portugal to a major tournament win then ride off into the sunset.
Habanos2000 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 as not a huge fan of the EPL, but definately an underdog fan, watching QPR scare the hell out of City and thier fans (the camera shots of some of the fans were priceless) only to see City come back to destroy ManU's hopes sure made for an exciting start to my Sunday. On to the Champions League final!
