isa Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Bought this jar today - looks beautiful - so posting my first pics. Sorry abt the quality, pics taken with an iphone(just too lazy to get the camera out). Pretty airtight jar with a humidifier to boot
Lotusguy Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Nice jar Do yourself a favor and toss the crappy green foam and replace it with some RH Beads!
Fshaw Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Nice jar Do yourself a favor and toss the crappy green foam and replace it with some RH Beads! ... or a Boveda humi-pack. I use them in all my jars and they keep them perfect as well.
cottierm Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Beautiful Isa! And nice smokes in perspective! Best, Michel
isa Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 Yeah, could do that - hav a pound of beads, but how do i open that
Squarehead Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Yeah, could do that - hav a pound of beads, but how do i open that Try to twist the halves apart, that's what I did with mine.Nice looking jar.
isa Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 Try to twist the halves apart, that's what I did with mine.Nice looking jar. Ok, thanks, will try
investandprosper Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I wasn't able to twist mine, but I was able to wedge a very small, thin flathead screwdriver to help pull it apart. Try to gently work it apart rather than forcing it. Good luck!
mk05 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Yes yes jars are the best. Are you going to smoke these or keep them away for the long term? Do you keep the jar in a humi? I keep my jars in the box, in a ziplock bag after it has stabilized temp and humidity in a humidor. Then i just put the thing out in a room, which is around the same temp as my humi (around 68). Really dont overthink this part, but make sure the content of the jar has stabilized before letting it go to sleep in whichever method you choose.
Scdalak Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Great Jar, I got mine few months back.... Unfortunatley the Cigars never made it.
isa Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 I just dont plan - if a box is not smoking well, then i give it rest Am smoking the first PSP 1 Creamy , leather, touch of pepper, touch of cedar, nuts, coffee, smooth, medium+ = enjoyable I havent planned - but i guess i will leave them in the jar (have humidified it).
almudawi Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I bought both of mine when these first came out.. One is for long term aging while the other is for smoking now. I have a review posted on my blog if you are interested in reading my tasting notes. These are proving to be fantastic smokes and I wish HSA would release a regular production of these, because I would buy a truck load of these if they were packaged in boxes and came with a lower price tag. In terms of storage, just place some dry beads in there and let the natural humidity do the rest..
Zigatoh Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 A bit like the poster above said, these need so little humidification its silly, the jar is really air tight, I over humidified mine to start with. I would suggest a drop of the propylene glycol (sp?) Solution every so often to avoid mold but that's it ... And deffox the psp1 is a seriously good cigar, mad that they haven't boxed it yet (like they did the d5 )
Ryan Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I never use those humidifiers. The jars are too airtight, the cigars will very possibly go moldy. Put the jar in a humidor. I would never switch the foam for beads or change it. Part of me thinks of resale value even though I haven't sold one.
nick17 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 beautiful! i want to get my hads on a jar but a little out of my price range for the moment
isa Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 Thanks Almudawi, i had a look at your notes, will definitely go through your other reviews as well - nice site you have there My jar lid fits in pretty tightly, so i would assume that its reasonably airtight(not strictly true, but i dont want to dip it in water to test any leak ) Thanks guys for the warning abt too much humidity, will keep an eye on that jar.
Dbone Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Nice jar, but the real treasures are the cigars inside. I missed out on getting these when they were available. I still can't understand why HSA would choose to release cigars like the D5 and E2 instead of the P1. Truly a top shelf cigar. Enjoy
