ajgagnon Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 What a reminder. I've never met Guy either but I have been thinking lately of the 'point of it all' as spring rises almost self-consciously in my neck of the woods, and I have been rushing around so much with work and life that I haven't had much time to just live in the moment. My wife went out with a friend this evening and my boy is struggling to fall asleep in his new toddler bed but there is a little window of time to step outside and enjoy a cigar. How do you choose a cigar at a time like this? I've been wanting to try one of the 4 Fundadores I brought back from Cuba last time, but that might be too long. I want something better than a P. Short. This is a reminder to live cigar. I chose a Cohiba robusto. Rich, medium-length but hopefully rewarding. The sun is just high enough now that it clears the peak of the house across the street, giving an extra 1/2 hour or so of perfect evening light. A pin-hole crack lets some air in, making me puff several times to stoke up the ember. I don't mind tonight. It still gets rich and woody, with a bit of chocolate and hay. Pure Cuba. I think of great trips to Cuba and watch people walk by with their dogs, listening to sparrows and their antics. I got my truck running a bit better this week, and have a small project going in the garage. I've got a Californian Cab Sauv keeping my belly warm, and will grill a steak tonight. 'Burn's a bit wonky. The neighbours are off to a wedding for their niece. Looking sharp! Anyway, I just wanted to send a note out to the FOH to remind everyone to celebrate the good things and enjoy every minute. We only get so many. Best, Adam
isa Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Good writeup there, Adam - thanks Indeed, i try to celebrate each moment
celtmick1984 Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Second the thought. I'm doing the same; smoking my first short Churchill. Young, but other than an uneven burn, very good smoke. Noticeably more aromatic than the NCs I've smoked, with a very clean finish and mouth feel. Redeeming the time on a rainy Sunday afternoon spent with Dalrymple.
MIKA27 Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Nice one Adam. I envy you right now. My weekend just came and went without a cigar to be had as the weather this way in Melbourne was freezing and I had way too much stuff to do over the weekend. I also have a son who has just recently taken to a proper bed and it's often dificult to get them to stay there... Loved your pictures, I am sure its chilly over that way but at least you had some sunshine.
ckearns Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Very well put, Adam. All too often we get caught up in life and we don't take moments to step back and really enjoy ourselves. Thanks for the post.
CanuckSARTech Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Great thought, and excellent post, Adam. Thanks for sharing this. My heart still is saddened by Guy's predicament right now.
LeafLover Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 My kids have taken to the acronym YOLO. From a song, I believe, from an American hip-ho/rap artist named Drake. Pretty true. YOLO = You Only Live Once
BatFastard Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 From a song, I believe, from an American hip-ho/rap artist named Drake.] Whoa whoa whoa.... American??? Sorry pal, Canadian all the way. But on a more serious note, great post. Life's far too short and try to never sweat the small stuff. Cheers, Jay
Puros Y Vino Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Great post. Enjoy every day and treat those you care about well.
Marker Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Adam, awesome that you made time to smoke a cigar and decided every day is the best day to smoke a good cigar. I used to get some CCs in from trades etc and hoard them. Just let them sit and smoke one every month or so. Now I force myself to smoke my 'special' cigars every week. Who knows when you can't smoke another cigar? When you can't be here tomorrow? There is no special occasion like the day you are living. No one can tell you any different.
PigFish Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 The cigar as a matter of discussion can be very complex. Enjoying one should be extremely simple. That is my anecdotal contribution for this fine topic! Cheers! -Piggy
Orion21 Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I have been lucky in my life to have only lost two people close to me and none in the last 5 years, but what happened to Guy has made me rethink my smoking habits. Cigars I was dead set on aging into oblivion I am going to enjoy with those I care about sooner than later. You just never know when your last cigar will be, so make it a good one -- unless HSA has a hand in rolling you a crap box Cheers and good smoking everyone!
AverageJoe83 Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Sound advice. It is nice when things get hectic to enjoy a moment to yourself of simple enjoyment.
