cmcompto Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Opinions? Hi Orion, They are a good smoke, I prefer the Reyes, but still very nice. mc
Ophidion Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 They aren't too shabby but every one I have smoked seems to have been too dry. Never had that problem with the Reyes or Robusto extra when kept in the same humidor so YMMV
Puros Y Vino Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I've had a few. Probably one of the tastier Trinidads's I've had. I already am a fan of the Reyes, Rob T's and Fundadores.
CaptainQuintero Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 They seem to me to be the odd one out in the marque, but if you like tea they are the cigar to get
winelover Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Good quality tobacco, nicely balanced, but they really do need time - I'd say 3 years minimum. ROTT I find them very strong indeed, and overpowering to my taste. I like the Reyes but they are totally different cigars. I'd prefer a fresh Reyes over Coloniales but with some age I'd say Coloniales hands down. Just my 0.02
gersonmorelli Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I've been unimpressed with the few Coloniales I've tried. But then again I'm not the greatest fan of recent production Trinidad. Earlier Fundadores were the only cigars of the marque that really impressed me. Reyes are also pretty good, but considering its price I usually go for something else.
sblevit Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 IMO they are the best of the line. But they do need three years to rest. Look for an '08 or earlier box and you won't be disappointed.
esse Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 wow, seems like people are all over the place on trinidad

Then, aged 5-7 years plus Fundy's would top all.
BrotherBear Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I burned a box a few years back. Never bought an other one... not that they were bad, but I didn't think enough of them to buy an other... ymmv
sblevit Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 wow, seems like people are all over the place on trinidad I think that's because people have smoked them while young and not gotten as much out of the cigar as they can.
jedipastor Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 An aged Coloniales is an awesome cigar, but they do seem to need that age (a lot like Cohiba). Clean tobacco, some caramel and nuts. Delicious. If HSA would just drop the price of Trinidad a bit across the board, they would sell so much better!
khomeinist Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Glad people are smoking aged samples. Big improvement. Much better than Robusto T. One of my staples with 3-5 years of age.
Rushman Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 They seem to me to be the odd one out in the marque, but if you like tea they are the cigar to get X2 --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.631673,-87.070767
Pilgrims Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Only ever had one and was looking forward to it right up to the point where it was plugged...tossed it
mk05 Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 As a marca, Trinidad stands apart from all other offerings. No other marca comes close to the quality, the complexity, and pedigree IMO. There's just something about those cigars that screams "old Cuba." That said, and as others have noted, you either love it like crack or you don't. And the Coloniales tastes like nice HK milk tea mixed with Trinidad flavors. 08, 09 vints have been quite spectacular.
