dzg Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Hi Folks, Just joined the forum after stumbling upon some of the youtube reviews. I actually spent the last two days going through almost every page of the cigar review forum. Thus far I have tried: MonteCristo #2 (supposed to be famous but was boring and linear), Hoyo de Monterrey (another boring cigar, nothing special), Partagas (too spicy and rough for me I couldn't take it) and H. Upmann #46 (a beautiful cigar, loved everything about it, my favourite but would have liked a bit more richness and full-body). I hear about these mythical "cocoa, chocolate, honey, coffee, creamy" flavours that people experience and thats what I am after, I havent ever experienced a "smooth, sweet and rich" cigar. Can anyone suggest what cuban would offer the sweetish rich flavour profile to me? I hear the names Bolivar & Trinidad coming up in the reviews with that kind of profile but unsure what vitola, also some of the reviews plain contradict others so its left me more confused. My birthday is coming up, the big 40, and I intend to head down to the local shop and pick up some singles, I would love to be able to enjoy one of those epic smokes to mark my 40 years. Any help from the brothers on this forum appreciated. Thanks for reading.
brazoseagle Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 If you are looking for Chocolate, Coffee, Cream, and Sweetness, and especially if you are wanting to celebrate a special occasion. Look No further: Go get yourself some Cohiba Genios Maduro and some Ramon Allones Extra 2011 EL's. Maybe pick up some small sticks like a Monte #5, and Trinidad Reyes. If you can find a Monte Grand Edmundo 2010, get that!! You will get tons of Chocolate, Coffee and Sweet Cream flavors!!! If you really want to splurge on your 40th, just for something extra and special in addition to the sweet sticks, pick up a Cohiba Behike 52. Also, I recommend introducing yourself in the Intro section of the forum. It is strongly encouraged, so others can get to know you. Others on the site are more likely to contribute once you've made an introduction. Just an FYI.
tmac77 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 very suprised to hear that you were dissapointed by teh Monte #2 as they are one of my favorites for cocoa flavours. Not sure which HDN you tried but I find that the HDM des dieus with some age on it is loaded with cream. The mag 46 is a fine cigar. As for Bolivars, the PC and the corona extras are my personal favorites from Boli and try the Trini Colonials or Reyes in that line
CaptainQuintero Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 The Monte Sublime is pure milk chocolate and coffee creme, that's a nice stick. The Especial #2 is creamy and chocolatey too, a hint of dried raisin also. The Upmann Mag 46 like you say is a creamy chocolate stick for the, the mag 48 is similar but more chocolate biscuit than chocolate bar. Maybe try the Robaina Unicos or Sancho Panza Molinos. Half the fun of Cubans is the journey of discovering which cigars you love, pick up some singles of each of what people recommend and get puffing and taking notes
Hemsworth Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 The Bolivar Royal Corona is all about chocolate and cream for me. I feel like I just ate a bag of Whoppers for hours after!
PartagasIV Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 VR Unicos is what first came to mind for me, with those flavors.
Schumi5 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Welcome aboard! For chocolate definitely try a VR Famosos or Unicos, delivers in spades. Cream is present in most of the H. Upmann line. Try a #2 and you will not be dissapointed. I would encourage you to give the Monte #2 another shot, as it does have exactly what you are looking for. With that being said, they can be horribly inconsistent. For your special day, give a Trinidad Robusto Extra or RA Extra a shot, excellent celebratory cigars that will give you exactly what you are looking for.
dzg Posted March 4, 2012 Author Posted March 4, 2012 Thanks for the replies, folks. I have added an introduction in the intro forum. I will drop by the nearest cigar store and pick up a bunch of singles of some of the ones mentioned here and others that I read about in the reviews. Not sure if I can afford a Cohiba, will have to see what the prices are (I tried some Siglos a while back and I was so totally underwhelmed - which is why I believe that the real deals may be found in the brands unknown to the general public but popular amongst the cigar aficionados ... so e.g. Bolivar or R. Allones instead of Cohiba or Montecristo). I understand its subjective so lets see which brand/vitola speak to me. I will keep you updated. After I find a few favourites I am going to book myself a 4 day trip to Havana and buy some boxes of my favs. This time I buy for myself instead of friends who want to replenish their humidors.
Dbone Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 VR Unicos is what first came to mind for me, with those flavors. +1 The chocolate bomb, VR Unicos. When the stars align on these, it's like smoking a cup of hot chocolate.

Totally awesome coffee dark coco and milk to diff degrees each stick...
joshua84 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I always noticed these flavours in lighter bodied cigars. Personally I think you might notice this more in a HDM Epicure 1
cigcars Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Por Larranaga regular productions are all honeyed brandywine to me!
CanuckSARTech Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Good rich Montes. PSP No. 2's or 4's, Sublimes EL 2008, Grand Edmundo EL 2010. That's for chocolate, coffee, cream. If you want more coffee on the front end over the chocolate tones, then I totally agree with the Cohiba Maduro line, something I always find in a nice Secretos.
mk05 Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Neal, it depends on what youve been smoking , are used to smoking, and how long youve been smoking. Ie, nc, full body, days or months of smoking. Great thoughts here, i would x2 Hovys suggestions. If you really want to splurge for creamy coffee cocoa, go grab a cohiba 1966. The recent SLR Pacificos release has been very good, albeit a pretty penny. Have a good one
tydra Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 A Cohiba Genios would definitely fit the bill. If you'd like something cheaper, try an SLR Regios, very sweet and creamy, though short on the chocolate and coffee.
