El Presidente Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 What flavours can you NOT taste? Everyones palate is different. Some more advanced than others simply due to the fact of the quantity of taste buds on your tongue and others more advanced simply due to experience. However there are some flavours that people are just not predisposed to. Many have never tasted Chocolate/Coffee/Salt/Honey/Stonefruit in a Cigar. What flavour is your nemesis....the one you would love to taste but never have?
JSPEC Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Never had Stonefruit in a cigar. Could be due to inexperience because I am relatively new to the cigar world so haven't smoked many different types of cigars. But by golly I wanna taste some stonefruit one day if I am able to.
ramon_cojones Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I like how my posts spawn new threads lol. I am officially going on record to say that I have absolutely no ******* idea what stonefruit or stewed fruit is
aavkk Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Rob I think that putting a finger on a particular flavor is as much a function of paying attention to what you eat and drink and the variety of your diet on a regular basis than amount of taste buds. Because my diet consists of very little sugar I am very sensitive to it. Many cigars that contain trace amounts of sweetness my palate registers it right away. The same holds true for the bready/doughy flavors- I taste that and it registers right away. I guess for me I haven't really had a cigar that differentiated between say grapefruit and orange peel but perhaps the next cigar I light up will prove me wrong- I can only hope.
ramon_cojones Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 ^excellent point, was going to add this I tasted almonds in the 03 des dieux I had last night because it wasn't something I'm accustomed to, kind of like marzipan and amaretto.
tinknocker924 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I've tasted chocolate, coffee, salt, honey, stonefruit in a cigar before and love it but i have never ever tasted LEATHER before in a cigar it's definitely my nemesis
Deemancpa Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 umm Wasabi and sauteed mushrooms..el prez
khomeinist Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Strawberry. A Smithy blast from the past....
randomhero1090 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I can say i've tasted citrus, but couldn't define it to a specific fruit (like orange or orange peel, grapefruit, etc). Same with nuts. Tasted nuttiness, but not a specific nut. I'm pretty "general" in my description of cigars. Sweet, spicy, woody, toasty, nutty, creamy, earthy...
Bcrowell Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I have been smoking NCs for four years. The best flavor I ever found was leather. In 6 months of Cubans I have been lucky enough to experience floral notes, chocolate, coffee, cream. I have not experienced many fruit flavors. Once or twice I might have tasted fruit. I am looking fo rmore sweet notes.
ronin Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Leather but then I don't eat to much of it, so I wouldn't really know what it tastes like.
Wicky Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I get many flavors. Mainly out of the blue. wasabi, porcorn, cooked meat,green/sour fruit/stonefruit,astringent/glue/chemical, chocolate, coffee, salt, caramel to name a few. many I can't label, probably because I'm not familiar with them. nutmeg or clove or other things I have never tasted. but I have never understood what people mean by spicy (to an extent), wood, earth or leather. Those descriptions are lost on me.
Habanakane21 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Stonefruit, don't even know what it is! Fruit with a pit. Plums, cherries, mangos, peaches, apricots..etc... I didn't know either until Rob, Smith, Ken explained it a few years back in a video.
Habanakane21 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Caramel,Cedar,Coffee,Dark Chocolate, Dried Fruits,Espresso,Honey,Milk Chocolate,Toasted Marshmallow. Salt, Green Tea, Mushrooms,Citrus, Cooked Carrots, I'd love to taste cooked carrots just once...
Habanos2000 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Can't remember ever finding any sweet flavors in my cigars, such as a fruit profile.
cckandb24 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I like sweets, so when someone says a particular viotola has sweetness, I buy a box but rarely ever pick it up. Wood, leather, coffee, cocoa, spicyness, grassiness are what register really good with me. Never pick up fruit or herbs, I really really want to though, damn it
Vitty Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 The Allones Extra was the first time I picked up on fruits. Very tasty! Chocolate eludes me something fierce
