Hash Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Hello, What is the exchange rate of the CUC againest the USD or EURO.
MPS Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 If you want to know for sure you need to call a hotel in Cuba to confirm.
goalie204 Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 basically on par right now with USD - 241 CUC = 241 USD
MPS Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 basically on par right now with USD - 241 CUC = 241 USD This is not correct. Last I heard it was 1 to 1.15. You have to call a hotel or bank in Cuba to find out since it fluctuates.

compitaveggie Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 In Cuba they will also charge a 10% fee on the exchage for USD. Three weeks ago the exchange was about .87 cuc to 1USD. No other currency is charged this "fee". Also what the bank pays out versus what the actual rate is is different. The way the banks makes money is by giving less than the rate on the internet. Also ALL the hotels had worse exchange rates than the airport.
tdlfoto Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 in Varadero I usually go back into the airport upon landing in order to get my CUC's for the trip. typically a better rate than the hotels.
MPS Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 100.00usd = 87.00cuc Saludos Jefe de Reservas Hotel Meliá Habana
Ryan Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 This is the official site, it can be slow. Buy and sell prices in the main grid. Official exchange rate on the left side of the page. There should be no commission charged on those prices. 10% extra charge for USD. http://www.bc.gov.cu/Espanol/tipo_cambio_METROPOLITANO.asp
Tarks Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 1st off, do not bring USD to Cuba. The CUC is pegged against the USD so whatever your country currency trades against the USD is what you'll get for the CUC. There is no longer the 11.24% service charge to convert to CUC. So, for example, today 1 Cdn dollar will get you approx .98 USD or .98 CUC. Of course credit card fees still remain.

The CUC is pegged to the USD. In other words, it is always par to the USD. No need to call anyone in Cuba.
sg1234 Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Much of my time researching travel options to Cuba for an American has been spent on money options. I suggest you read the Lonely Planet Cuba FAQ. The info is slightly outdated (1 CUC is now equal to 1 USD *on paper*), but the rest of the information -- such as exchange rates, exchange options, etc. -- is accurate based on what travelers are reporting over at LP. I plan on splitting my funds between a Caribbean Transfers travel card and American Express travelers checks. I will confirm all of the exchange rates and the money situation in March when I go.
