laficion Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 The H.Upmann Amatistas was always a cigar difficult to find due to the vitola's rarity and small quantity. The tobacco for these factory named Superiores, were of the highest quality and in the year 2000, the production of the Amastistas was steped up at the H.Upmann factory but, unfortunately in the course of 2002,it was decided that the Amatistas along with the Gran Coronas also a Superiores size, would be discontinued. In Min Ron Nee's Encyclopaedia,he states that the Amatistas are cigars for serious aging and that they should be aged at least 5 years from their box date before being smoked.Same for the Gan Coronas . Well, that's good to know because this week I stumbled on a box with the factory code ECA (H.Upmann) from Oct 01. After opening the box,I was truly surprised & over taken by the smell and aromas that were very intense for these cigars that are exactly 10 years old. The wrappers are a bit rough but a beautiful Colorado shade. I will let them rest up before smoking one but, as you may know, I'm not a very patient person. Here are a few Pics. of the H.Upmann Amatistas.
Rogers72 Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Gorgeous Guy! Can't wait to hear how they smoke!
investandprosper Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Excellent find! Nice box press, they look fantastic.
Lotusguy Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Wow, what a find !! Another cigar I never even heard of before...
Smallclub Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Hey Guy, finally you got them! Bravo! It seems that they have exactly the same wrappers as the two boxes of Grand Coronas (supposedly the same cigar) I have had the chance to find. Do you have the impression that some of them might have a tight draw? Anyway, don't smoke them on an empty stomach, these are serious eye-openers!
laficion Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 Do you have the impression that some of them might have a tight draw? No Frank, I don't regret it, I've made my rounds to check if tight or not, they seem fine . We'll see what gives when I light one up .
ewipper Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I ONLY HAVE HALF A BOX LEFT OF THIS IDENTICAL CODE. FANTASTIC CIGARS.
Lotusguy Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I ONLY HAVE HALF A BOX LEFT OF THIS IDENTICAL CODE. FANTASTIC CIGARS. No need to yell...
Rushman Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Very nice find. My wife has a box back home in her "rush is not allowed to touch" humidor. I have very little patience for long term collecting, which makes my wife's collecting a nice balance. Enjoy! --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.630069,-87.069706
stogieokie Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I'm a bit surprised that no one else has commented about how funky the date code stamp looks on that box . . . I still avoid '99-'01, even though many are bragging about them. I just haven't had good luck with anything from those vintages.
Smallclub Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I'm a bit surprised that no one else has commented about how funky the date code stamp looks on that box . . . It's a bit funky, and then? We have seen much worse…
