I am from Canada and as you may know...OUR WINTERS ARE COLD! I tried to bare it last winter to smoke cigars outside due to the fact that I don't smoke in my house but that just left me smoking churchills in 45 minutes. This has caused me to revisit many cigars I had during the winter and finding that I enjoyed them much more (I wonder why). I was thinking about buying a propane umbrella style heater for the garage or even going to the extreme of building a shack in the backyard as sort of a man cave cigar den. So I have a question for all my outdoor northerners, what is your plan for this upcoming winter?

My plan is a heater in the garage, plug it in a few hours before heading out. Hope for a Calgary chinook so the temperature is above zero. I general cut right down on cigars in the winter. If I get a chance to have one it is usually short and skinny.

There is a guy in Winterpeg (Winnipeg) that uses a ice fish shack with a propane heater in the backyard.

Been thinking about one of those gas patio heaters too, pretty cheap (Around £90) and I know they can be very hot but I don't really know what the effect will be when the wind is blowing and its dark and damp everywhere, kind of defeats the purpose.

Add to the fact that England got 4 days of summer this year in addition to the 6 days of decent spring means I'm none to happy as winter has pretty much set in now.

I'd say if it's snowy ie dry and not much wind then the patio heaters could be a good idea. If it's damp, dark and windy then I'm not so sure, I may just weld together two oil drums, cut the top off the top and bottom and stand inside and be a one-man chimney.

I´ll just turn up the heat in my camper/caravan parked in our backyard.

Served me well last winter! :cigar:

I typically smoke in the car on the drive home on Friday afternoons. During spring/summer/winter, I'll also have a cigar on the backyard patio Sunday afternoons. During the winter I'll just have to suck it up and limit myself to Friday afternoons. I hate the idea of "forcing" a smoke.

Forgot to mention, it might not be a good idea to have the propane umbrella type heater in the garage because of the open flame and carbon monoxide issues. If you do, have the garage door wide open.

I'll be smoking (NCs only) at the B&M and letting my own cigars age all winter. Will occasionally head to a cigar-friendly restaurant with something nice from my humidor to smoke with friends.

Our winters aren't quite as cold as in Canada, but they're still pretty cold. I cut back over winter and occasionally enjoy shorter sticks.

We've just come out of a long, cold winter and spring is upon us at last. Time to break out some of the longer sticks!

Small cigars, and less of them. Let your stock gather another 6 months humi time. It will only do them good.

If you NEED to smoke, I suggest a heated garage or other space. Those patio heaters are OK for October. Not so much December through March...

x2 Winter is the time to get some age on your smokes

I'm putting R38 and vapor barrier in the garage ceiling right now. Two more weeks and I'll be done. Then I have a 30AMP temp controlled space heater, should make the area as comfortable as the house to work. My excuse to head to the workshop/garage every night will be my work on a 10' Black Walnut dining table that should be done by Christmas.

Hello Fellow FOHers,

For me, Winter is the end of smoking season. I don't smoke in the house, and have no where else to go. I smoked one cigar last night by a fire pit outside, but that may be the end until next spring. Smoking is a seasonal sport for me, sadly.

Thank you,

Curtiss

I wet my cigars by running them under the filter water tap, foot down, prior to taking it out in the cold/dry winter. Have never had a crack since I've been doing this.

Happy to host a couple of fumadas in the garage over the winter. Nice and toasty...

Art,just let as know.Personally I smoke in my basement in the wintertime.

I retreat to my attic. It is not heated but heat does rise so it is a lot warmer than being on the porch.

I am building a garage with a rec room above which will become the haven when it is done. It will not be ready for this winter so the attic it is!

I used to smoke in my car in the driveway (was a company car) but since I have left and have been hesitant about smoking in mine so I stuck to the garage, bundled up...I don't really change the cigars I smoke I smoke the same stuff....this year I think I will try a heater to make it a little more enjoyable...
