Exactly. I often wonder about this as we bemoan the loss of this cigar or that cigar. Would a resurrected version meet our expectations and memories? The on-again-off-again Bolivar Gold Medal is a case in point.

The 2011 La Escepción regional edition will be another.

While only my opinion... I think that they will not be the same. The small production runs of regular catalogue item cigars is, IMHO, what contributes to their reliable quality and greatness. I am only speculating of course. A batch, rushed into production like any other EL will likely suffer the same fate. If you like your EL cigars... that may be a good thing for you. For me, it would be a disaster!

The formula for great cigars has existed in the Cuban cigar catalogue for many years now. It took me many years to discover it. I did not change it. You (as individuals) did not change it! These changes were made by the master minds of the Cuban tobacco monopoly. They are wholly responsible for the performance of their products and lack thereof.

Ray and Frank, I'm with you guys on this one. Dip #1 is a real treat.

I have, maybe, eight left from an '01 box and I cherish each one.

I will miss the D-1 too! Thankfully I saw the trend and went with my gut and bought a slew of them. I think I even bought Bwana's last box! I gave one the other day to KB24 and I think he too was favorably impressed. While I like the Monte 1, it does not even come close to the D-1.

This is a fair point - thats why I added my caveat - All 5 cigars I mentioned are dearly departed, but ones I also have all smoked (died and gone to heaven while doing so) and have managed to acquire at least a box of so that I don't miss out on them.

It's easy for me to add a cigar like a RA Corona or Partagas Seleccion Privada, ones that I'm dying to try but have yet to have the pleasure....but then I would not be speaking from experience, simply longing instead.

That said - I'm still searching the ends of the earth for cigars like RA Corona and Party Sel. Priv.....maybe once I try them, they would bump one of my top 5 down!

As far as the obsession goes - I think it speaks volumes that this what we're talking about so much these days - when you consider of all that we've lost.

and aes9 - Great minds, man! Every one of those 5 is top shelf in my books. If I return from the Med via California - we should meet up for a herf or something with Piggy and other South Cali boys! Us guys with good taste have to stick together!

Definately let me know. I have a friend with a GHR membership that is always offered whenever I want to use it.

Mate... you find your way to Isla PigFish and you will try a Partagas Selection Privada!.... Oh... and a good Diplomatico #1!

It's a deal! I'm working on it but with mission uncertainty, I can't say for sure for months about which way we will be returning to Victoria! You'll be amongst the first to know!

Funny you should mention the Dip 1....i had my last one of the few I brought with me on the deployment....it was absolutely stunning!!!! The finest Dip 1 I have had in at least a year! Makes me remember why I was so gung ho about picking up those boxes a few years ago! More details to come in my Journal once i get my next entry sorted out!

Definately let me know. I have a friend with a GHR membership that is always offered whenever I want to use it.

Awesome, thanks man! You got it! Like I said to Piggy above - If I end up sailing back through Panama and up the coast, I will be giving you a ring to make it happen! Hopefully I'll have some rare finds from my travels in the Med to boot!

Give HSA time and you will get all the cigars mentioned in this thread in the near future... Though they will have a different blend, they will have an added second band, and they will cost more!

This is my grandfather's axe. My father replaced the handle. I replaced the head.

I don't think I've tried any of the cigars on peoples list. Heck I haven't even had a Boli CE. Only discontinued cigars I have a Punch RS 11 and Gold medals. Good but I will not cry when they are gone as I enjoy other cigars just a much.

It is an absolute scandal that they've decimated diplomaticos. Anyway I'd bring back:

Dip 1s, 4s, 5s

Partagas SdC nos. 1 to 3 inclusive

RA-898

Upmann monarcas tubos
