El Presidente Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 After recommending these so heavily after my blind tasting with Trevor Leask I managed to get some in and many of you purchased. I don't normally recommend a cigar so hard so I am keen on your feedback on this H. Upmann Robusto from the Leather Travel Humidor. Was I right or full of it?
Lotusguy Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 They are just as good as your review said!!
Ghabanos Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I've had two... They were so so... I can't describe why yet... The others are in my humi... Maybe more time? The travel humi is beautiful though...
Wil Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Haven't tried one yet. They smell fantastic. Will try one in the next week or two and report back.
prshah25 Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 It was ok. The cigars do not smell great like a cuban. Its really hard to describe it. Maybe its because it stayed so long in the humidor box. They were a little dry as well. Tried one cigar and it was not as flavorful as per your review..I have the remaining five resting in the humidor. Hopefully they get better...
markmurase Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I've had one H. Upmann Robusto from the Travel Humidor and it was the best cigar I've had this year. Beautiful toasted tobacco with subtle waves of cream, honey, mild spices and forest floor. Medium bodied, quality aged tobacco. Fantastic construction: lovely grey long ash and perfect burn with no relight needed. This cigar was absolute bliss right down to the finger-burning end. 95 points

tmac77 Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Upon receipt of these I removed them from the travel humidor and placed them in one of my desktops to rest for a while. About 6 weeks later I sparked one up and it was absolutely delightful. Lived up to the hype from your review with trevor and ended up as one of the best of the year for me. A solid 94+. Had another about a week ago which was equally wonderful. I can't wait until they release the H. Upmann Robusto LE which, I would assume, will be the same blend. Of course we are dealing with H.SA. So if anyone can f#ck it up they can.

tmac77 Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 That's my prob... Didn't have room in the desktop, so I kept it in the travel humi... Let's wait and see... I got two of these and was going to keep one as is and the other as singles in my desktop. But I was not overly impressed with the scent of the travel humidor so I moved all of them to my desktop.
tdlfoto Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Mine are resting in my humidor. I was skeptical about the effect the travel humidor might impart Glad to hear the reviews thus far. Will smoke one in a couple weeks and report back.
Wil Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Any tips for getting rid of the travel humi smell?
markmurase Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Any tips for getting rid of the travel humi smell? Hi Wil, if you take them out of the leather travel humidor and put them in your normal humidor for a while I'm sure that will do the trick.
Wil Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Hi Wil, if you take them out of the leather travel humidor and put them in your normal humidor for a while I'm sure that will do the trick. Thanks Mark, have done this and smell has gone from the cigars. Was wondering how to get the smell out of the humi itself? Cheers, Wil
Seriesteve Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Aye Aye Folks We were gifted a pair of these to sample, and although mine started off with a bit to much Cedar in it IMO. it developed into a fine Cigar, Tangy Orange, Chocolate... Personally, I'd have them out of the box ASAP We rated it 90 + Steve
dcse Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Sampled two so far. One out of the travel humidor - dry and with no character, and one after six weeks in a humidor - a taste of Heaven. So what do you all do with the empty travel humidors? Put them on display, actually use them whenever travelling, sell them on ebay or throw them away?
Lotusguy Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 So what do you all do with the empty travel humidors? Put them on display, actually use them whenever travelling, sell them on ebay or throw them away? Displaying mine together with some of my more rare/nice empty boxes. I did use it as an actual travel humi for a while but my favorite vitolas (long and skinny) simply don't fit so I retired it.
Professor Twain Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I have smoked two of these and have really enjoyed them. Nice clean toasty tobacco Upmann taste. And the leather travel humidor looks a lot better than my usual plastic case. Great for a night out unless I'm smoking larger cigars.
Wil Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Finally got around to lighting one up tonight. Midway through the first third and it is beautiful. Light to medium body, hints of coffee and light cedar. Might be some shortbread in there too. The thing that has really grabbed me though is the beautifully light, aromatic smoke that is drifting across the balcony.
prshah25 Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 This cigar was badly reviewed by me when I first got it. I guess the travel humidor imparted a bad taste to it.. Fast forward 7 months in my humidor: I smIke's one today and all I can say its heavenly..fabulous aroma, vanilla, cinnamon and hazelnut flavors till the nub..I can't wait for the next one.. Prez, this was a home run..thanks for sourcing these cigars..
cckandb24 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Are these the same as the royal robustos? Second question, are they royal robustos available anywhere? I have been looking for months with no such luck as finding them?
Lotusguy Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Are these the same as the royal robustos? Second question, are they royal robustos available anywhere? I have been looking for months with no such luck as finding them? The short answer is No (they are smaller than the Royal Robustos) and No (if I knew ANYWHERE to buy the Royal Robustos, I would stock up even more because they are THAT good!)
markmurase Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I'm really pleased this thread has come up because it's given me a prompt to try a 2nd H. Upmann Robusto from the travel humidor. My 95 point score from last year may have been a little optimistic, but it was certainly a very good cigar. Wil, I'm glad my postings were of use to you. Cheers mate. Happy smoking, Mark
