A work colleague brought me back a cigar from cuba...

Recommended Posts

Ok so theres this guy at work and saying he would be my friend would be pushing it a bit.

But over the last 4 years he has shown a keen interest in my passion for cigars and has always been very curious, i wouldnt be a serious habanos enthusiast by measure of some of the people on this forum, but i think of myself as fairly knowledgable and know what i like.

Well this guy always asks me to bring him a cigar on the various functions and work gigs we have attended, aswell as on ordinary nights out with the lads, im always happy to oblige and ive brought him everything from RyJ No. 2 tubos to bolivar royal coronas. I was just being friendly and i soon discovered it was just about the ritual of blowing smoke and he said one night when drunk he didnt care what he smoked. Needless to say i stopped giving him a cigar on nights out.

To cut a long story short, two weeks ago before he left on his honeymoon to cuba, he sat me down and said: "Stevie, for all the cigars you brought me over the years and the support youve given me in work, i will bring you back a really special cigar from cuba."

I nearly said " ok mate make it BHK 56"

lol of course i wouldnt be that crass and i was genuinely grateful for the gesture.

Well he came back to work today with that very special cigar....

A Guantanamera Cristales.

Enough said.

 I'm sorry! He didn't know. You should have educated him along the way about what the greats are and what is "average"! He probably thought because it was in a glass tube it was "something special"! Again, sorry! :D:2thumbs:

Cheap Bastid.

Cigars are everywhere in Cuba. It would not have skipped his mind he was buying you the cheapest available.

Don't hold a grudge. Put drugs in his desk draw, call security and move on.

This is one of the rare occasions you would have preferred to be given a glass top box. :2thumbs:

Forget it, and get him a Jewels Vanilla if you're ever obliged to again.

I agree with the prez...how come someone actually walk into a cigar store and think for a second hes bringning you back something speacial? glass top cohibas would have been better, yes fake, but at least in his mind he was bringning you Cohiba's so at least the thought would have been there

Just one stick!

When i go to cuba in november i will be keeping a close eye out for those cigars rolled from newspaper and animal hair, so i can graciously return the favour.

I will just tell him its a custom lol.

What the hell. That's just cheap for sure. If he got you a box, I might say that he just doesnt know his cigars...

U be the better man and bring him back a box of the "custom rolls". Better yet a cab...

You don't get disappointed when you expect very little from people. I suppose if the guy brought himself back some extravagant cigars, knew the difference, and appreciated the difference I might feel a little different about this. Some people are happy with Dutch dry cigars, non Cuban cigars and other choices.

I don't give cigars expecting a return. I give them from the heart, as gifts. If they are unappreciated, I don't give them anymore. Expecting someone to understand your passion, one that is without the passion, is not realistic. It is why I don't accept NC cigars, even as gifts. I don't like them, and rather than disrespect the gift, I kindly decline. The same goes for expensive wine, port or whisky. I don't drink the stuff and a taste for me is a sip off a glass of another. Fine spirits should haunt those that appreciate them. Fine cigars should be shared with those who appreciate fine cigars!

If you feel a desire to achieve equity, don't give away your coveted cigars! Sometimes I ask those who wish to mooch a cigar, that they buy my wife a drink. I don't buy the drink and when they leave the cigar mashed in an ashtry, while I still feel a sense of waste, I know I was compensated.

Generosity is a great gift... you should keep the virtue and adjust your company instead. Don't change yourself to suit those that are not like you. That would be a shame. Focus your gifts on a better class of cigar smoker and your generosity will be returned. Getting mad at all the inconsiderate sons-of-******* in this world will not leave you anytime to enjoy life. I say don't sweat it and get a good laugh; you paid for it already!

Piggy.

Your words are a gift to us all. Thank you. The value should be measured in the joy other's will experience with your act of generosity. The simply gift of a Cigar. That Joy is a secret shared by Cigar Smokers and I think we should share it.
