Picture Review: My first Behike!

Recommended Posts

So I finally got around to getting my hands on one of these, really wasn't sure about the hype. Me and hype don't normally have that good of a relationship!

Cold draw- sweet tobbaco

Aroma -mild with a little hint of spice, not much there.

Wrapper- To be honest a little rough, nothing bad but not what I was expecting for the price/hype. The opposite side of the cigar was veiny and had 5 frogeyes/waterspots on it.

Very mild and toast was the opening, the standout feature for me was how smooth this thing is. By far the smooest cigar I have ever had, not a hint of harshness or bitter flavours. Towards the end of the first third little waves of caramel drifted in.

Things started to change up in the second third, lttle hints of that sour honey that I normally associate with Cohiba made an appearence, the first time this showed that it was related to the marka. Not an unpleasant sourness, just very mild. As things progessed a little earth came in but again very mild. This seems to be the overriding personality of this cigar-mild, nothing overpowering anything else.

Tapped the ash here and boy did it change up for the final third. As soon as the ash had gone a massive wave of caramel rolled in putting Por Larranaga to shame. This developed into a strong floral flavour that pretty much stayed for quite a while. With not much left I would have ditched it as the floral flavour was turning harsh and wasn't to my liking but with the last poof bread and butter pudding made an appearance for half an inch! The harshness vanished and I was treated to this lovely ending.

This cigar oozed class, if it was a car it would be a Rolls Royce. Easily the smoothest cigar I have ever smoked and only wafted up towards medium body a few times during the hour it took to smoke. I was pretty much expecting to be slightly let down due to the hype but if I am honest, it lived up to the vast majority of it. The only issue I have is the size, I went for the 52 and that is pretty much the maximum I can enjoy smoking at. I know the trend towards larger ring guage but a Behike Lonsdale would be pretty spectacular IMO. Even so I would pick up a box of these at some point in the future now, although I probably wouldn't bother trying the larger formats.

92/100

The first two thirds were higher, possibly 94 but the harsh floral profile near the end took it down for me.

That's a great looking cigar and a great looking pooch in the background!

A question: given the box prices for these, would you rather buy a box of ten of these or have two boxes of 25 of your next favorite? That's the economic question that enters my mind every time I contemplate a Behike.

UK price for the 52 is £25 online about £40+ at B&M so I know what you mean. But it probably works out here that I could have a box of these or just one box of say Monte#3 or Mag 46.

To be honest I would probably pick a box of ten of these these up and smoke it over the course of a year? They are a special smoke so maybe keep them for special days. I think they are overpriced, I'm going to come out and say that right away but that is more down to the taxes in the UK. It's probably a good thing that I only like the smallest ring guage because I wouldn't pay for the two bigger ones, they are just oo much are far as I am concerned.

I just realised that I'm rambling lol so yeah, I probably would pick a box of these up over a box of my normal smokes and keep them for sepcial occasions. But it's at the limit of what I'm prepared to pay.

LOL I was thinking about getting a box for each day with perfect weather but not sure if it was worth it to smoke one cigar a year

The weather was actually perfect, no wind no humidity and just enough sun to warm you through without getting you sweaty, stayed like tht from 9am till 10pm :perfect10:

It probably marks me as some sort of obsessive-compulsive loon, but ten-count boxes make me crazy. I tend to grieve every time I light up. Still, I get the "special occasion" idea; it's just that every time I pick up a CC feels pretty doggoned special to me! Nonetheless, I'm intrigued enough that Behikes have made it to my "when-I-win-the-lottery" list. For that matter, though, if that's the case, I'll smoke 'em in Havana! :perfect10:

Piano child :D it could be the photo though, I have a 9 inch stretch between thumb and pinkie finger :(

lol with that ash building up I was being as delicate as possible so it didn't tip too, I had been playing tippy-sideways with it for the last ten minutes before the pic!
