jman Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 For some reason that brickhouse was strong. I too had the the la flor double press on the same weekend and it was strong, but not as crazy...brc that weekend as well and was floral. Sounds like we have similar tastes.
cigarroverzulu Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I think they (NCs) have lost their freeking minds!!! At the end of the day they all are trying to be be CCs or better??? WTF... Brands like Vieja with their uber limited releases are over the freekin top... Its getting silly folks. I had a guy from a local B&M call me twice today with the newest Viejas $290.00 out the door. I will be saving that for the Czar.
LeafLover Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Want a medium body, little spice, heavy on flavor? Guillermo Leon Gran Corona Pretty dam good for an NC fellas. IMO.
cigcars Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Why do you start all your posts with a *?I never understood that or people who sign their posts as if we don't know who is posting it LOL!! Gee, it just seems to "start" my sentence! Without an asterisk * start I just feel like I'm "falling in" to my sentence statement...it's like an anchor, small one I know, but just a cool little "boom" and here I am! Hmmm - does that really "irk" you?
ramon_cojones Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I think I will start all my sentences with a ! now, that's not pretentious is it?
cigcars Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I think I will start all my sentences with a ! now, that's not pretentious is it? We'd just look at it as Spanish language. There see - No >*< !!
cigcars Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Want a medium body, little spice, heavy on flavor?Guillermo Leon Gran Corona Pretty dam good for an NC fellas. IMO. Yes I credit that to the combination Brazilian and Cameroon tobaccos in this blend. That combo IMHO gives a near "Twang" of its own!
oliverchang514 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I think I will start all my sentences with a ! now, that's not pretentious is it? lol @that response to cigcars. How friendly of you"!" I too, was a tad confused with the asterisk as I thought I saw a quotation. It was kind of "douchey" to point out the "*", but it gave me a good chuckle. To each their own.
fred170 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 With all due respect to NC's and consumers of NC's, I try to shy away from these and only Herf on one if it is gifted to me. There are some good ones out there but I personally feel that when I smoke on a NC I dont get the same flavor profile that one would get with a CC. NC's are hotter, spicier, give a bad after taste (almost like sucking on Charcoal) and I usually have to rinse and douse in some expresso afterwards......

Even if they weren't question marks like that, I still wouldn't spend nearly $300 for no "piloto" "olor" bullshit. Unh unh

thechenman Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Certainly my experience is that in general CCs are milder than NCs, although as The Prez points out there are certainly CCs that can deliver quite the nicotine punch. I occasionally flick through NC reviews/adverts and like 3putt see continual reference to how strong or spice laden a particular cigar is, almost suggesting that smoking one (and not passing out) will either make you a "man" or confer some kind of kudos from other cigar smoking men. What a load of crap.TBH, I find NCs to be dissapointing at least 90% of the time. The bigger a CC is the more complexity and/or evolution I expect from it. With NCs however, the bigger it is the more likely I am to either got bored of it or (in the case of 52+ RG sticks) look ridiculous smoking it. This is all subjective of course, one man's meat is another man's NUB, but I do think there's a good reason why CA see fit to review a cigar after only smoking the first inch of it! It's not all bad though, I had a RP Decade torpedo recently that really hit the spot. Did the RP Decade turn your fingers and lips brown?
thechenman Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Want a medium body, little spice, heavy on flavor?Guillermo Leon Gran Corona Pretty dam good for an NC fellas. IMO. These are damn fine smokes...I smoke a lot of the coronas myself, but I really enjoy them.
thechenman Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 My pet theory is that NC manufacturers market their cigars a being similar in respect to CCs because of the forbidden nature of CCs. Everyone wants what they can't have, and most cigar smokers in America can't be bothered, don't want to take the legal risk, or don't have a reliabel source of CCs. Therefore, it is undertandable that these individuals who have never had the pleasure of a cigar from the ISOM will gravitate to cigars marketed as being the next best thing to authentic CCs. NC manufacturers/retailers need to make a buck like everyone else who conducts business. The marketing is just a ploy, and the NC guys know it...its just most American cigar smokers who don't. As an individual who smokes both NCs and CCs, I admire each for what they bring to the table. NCs focus on strength and spice. CCs focus on flavor and balance. They are two very different beasts. It may be a case that NC producers can't replicate the taste of a true Habano, but I find it very hard to believe that they can't get close if they really wanted to. I think it is more likely that they don't want to. Sure they will tell you their cigars taste Cuban becasue most cigar smokers stateside won't know any better. Going back to the second part, or maybe really the main part of my pet theory, is that NC producers know that one day the embargo will be lifted and they will face intense competition from Cuba. I believe that they purposely design their cigars the way they do to acclimate the palates of American cigar smokers to they type of cigars they make. This way when the embargo lifts, a lot of American cigar smokers will find Cuban cigars not to their liking, and stick with the NC cigars they have become so accustomed to. Just my $0.02...
kiwifruit Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 So NC's are like American muscle cars and CC's are akin to European engineered cars. What would be the Asian car equivalent of cigars?

Colt45 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 NCs focus on strength and spice. You mean like the Davidoffs you find to be light from another thread? I guess I just find it very interesting that some speak in such absolutes about these cigars when there are so many different ones available. I imagine that for every pepper bomb (to my palate) Illusione, there is a La Aurora, Leon Jimenes, Davidoff, AVO, etc, etc, etc. Different countries, climates, producers, multi country blends. But perhaps I should take my own advice - I think of all the Non-American members here as NAs - cuz yer all the same to me...............
Lotusguy Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 These are damn fine smokes...I smoke a lot of the coronas myself, but I really enjoy them. I have a full box of those (the Guillermo Leons) that I would love to trade for something CC (preferrably some PLPCs) I like them but I have too many NCs that are taking up space in my humi.

There are exceptions to many rules. However, I think even Davidoff knows where the butter is. That is probably why they've been rolling maduro cigars which are stronger than their tradtional lines and also the Puro d' Oro line which is also more robust than their usual offerings. For the most part...that's where the party is Colt.

With apologies to David Bowie... Ever hear a song that makes you break down and cry? We are the Non, We are the Non, we are the Non-Americans...
Colt45 Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 ...but I think you get my meaning. Naturally. Mr. Chen Again, I really don't disagree with much of what has been said, and I also think and speak very generally. But I also know that there are too many cigars to truly lump everyone together. As for the example of Davidoff, I guess in my mind, I view them as the NC version of the Cuban Cohiba - high profile, lots of flash, but lacking a little substance. These are the types of brands that are pushed from an advertising aspect. There are others we don't hear as much about. Oddly enough, I enjoy the AVO Domaine 30 and 40. Not as a change of pace, etc, but simply as a good cigar. With apologies to David Bowie...Ever hear a song that makes you break down and cry? We are the Non, We are the Non, we are the Non-Americans... Do you remember, president Ayala. Do you remember, the bills you had to pay after LFTH yesterday?
