docbp87 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 If they aren't already going to be on there, I would like to nominate The Third Man, Killing of a Chinese Bookie, and Duck You Sucker for this list.
tmac77 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 If you are taking nominations then I would like to put "The Long Good Friday" onto the list.
El Presidente Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Moved this great thread to the "Water Hole" for the time being. Great thread Stefan
cigcars Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Excellent thread, Stefan! These truly are "guy" movies! And it's nice to see "Duck, You Sucker!" otherwise known as "A Fistful of Dynamite" with the show music composer who makes my head spin like a crazy compass, Ennio Morricone, among the movies on some folks' list out here. With the obvious greats of "It's a Wonderful Life", "Wizard of Oz," and truly many, many, many more...may Robert Rodriguez's "Sin City", Wilson Yip's "Ip Man 1" and "Ip Man 2", Merle Oberon/Lawrence Olivier's "Wuthering Heights", and James Mason/Ava Gardner's "Pandora and the Flying Dutchman," make some selections...?
asmith Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I can't believe you haven't included Shaft in there yet? Who is the man that would risk his neck For his brother man? Shaft, can you dig it?
El Presidente Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I can't believe you haven't included Shaft in there yet? Who is the man that would risk his neck For his brother man? Shaft, can you dig it? Great Movie
docbp87 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Great Movie Great movie... Better soundtrack! Just got into a Cassavetes groove a few days ago myself (hence the mention of The Killing of a Chinese Bookie, actually)... what a man. Actually anything having to do with the guys that Dennis Leary mentions in his classic "*******" (Lee Marvin, John Wayne, John Cassavetes, and Sam Peckinpah) deserves to be on a list of movies a man should see. Peckinpah especially. The one line in The Wild Bunch that always gives me goosebumps, and makes me go "F*ck yeah!" on the inside... "If they move... KILL'EM."
MrGlass Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 What? No mention of Spice World? There's still 45 to go - give the man time.
thechenman Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Took the advice from your list and watched Long Kiss Goodnight w/Davis and Jackson. Great flick. Loved it. Watched it on my front porch while smoking a cigar. Thanks stefan...
Fuzz Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Took the advice from your list and watched Long Kiss Goodnight w/Davis and Jackson. Great flick. Loved it. Watched it on my front porch while smoking a cigar. Thanks stefan... LKG was the first DVD I ever purchased, back in the days when DVDs were $60 and players were $1500-$2000. Looking back, buying that JVC D2000 player in Shenzhen for $600 was a damn good buy! Had everything you ever wanted in a DVD player... back in 1997.
stefan850 Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 Sorry guys, I didn't mean to stop this thread like this but job searching has not been easy on me Kinda hard to find a job when you move to a different country/continent without knowing anyone or having any traceable education or work history. Now, finally I found one, great one actually, so I can spend free time online without feeling bad for not looking and most importantly, I'll be making my first Czar purchase in september (yay)... Now, lets finish this list so you guys dont have to ask yourself "what should I watch" for at least some time. 45. "Would you like me to seduce you? " The Graduate - 1967 Director: Mike Nichols Stars: Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft and Katharine Ross The Movie: Recent college graduate Benjamin Braddock is trapped into an affair with Mrs. Robinson, who happens to be the wife of his father's business partner and then finds himself falling in love with her teenage daughter, Elaine. The Year Of Living Dangerously - 1982 Director: Peter Weir Stars: Mel Gibson, Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hunt The Movie: A young Australian reporter tries to navigate the political turmoil of Indonesia during the rule of President Sukarno with the help of a diminutive photographer. Army Of Shadows - 1969 Director: Jean-Pierre Melville Stars: Lino Ventura, Paul Meurisse and Jean-Pierre Cassel The Movie: Realistic look at the cold, dangerous world of French Resistance in 1942. Why should you watch it: Because both the writer and the director of the movie were members of the French Resistance, there's no glamour for those heroes, no girl to win, no adventure to be had. It's a world of constant danger, betrayal and suffering. 39. If we get jammed up, we're holding court on the street. The Town - 2010 As he plans his next job, a longtime thief tries to balance his feelings for a bank manager connected to one of his earlier heists, as well as the FBI agent looking to bring him and his crew down. The Untouchables - 1987 Federal Agent Eliot Ness sets out to stop Al Capone; because of rampant corruption, he assembles a small, hand-picked team. BobKincaid Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Gettin' funner and funner! I have one film in mind that I won't mention till the list is complete. Curious to see if it might make it. OK, make that two films, but I know the second won't because it's technically a comedy. OK, three films. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY MIND?!?!?!?!
lemmycaution Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Army of Shadows is great. Melville was one of my favorite directors.
Guest rob Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Great thread. Good work. Please tell me you've got "Lost Highway", "Fresh", Donnie Darko", "Se7en", "Heat" and "Infernal Affairs" in there somewhere!
