stefan850 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Hey guys, I've been reading this forum of ours for days now and thanks to you all I've learned so much. Me being a cigar newbie, there's nothing for me to add, no way I can contribute, but, I do know a thing or two about movies so I figured I can suggest some to you all. I'll list 100 movies, in no particular order. 100 movies you could enjoy with a fine smoke. I hope that if you end up feeling like watching a movie but not really sure what you can open up this thread and pick something. Little disclaimer: There wont be any comedies, although I do love comedies they just don't make a lasting impression on me. Also there will be only a couple of Blockbusters (no Avatars, Dark Knight's etc, although I love Dark Knight btw). Some will be famous you all have probably seen (Raiders of the Lost Arc), some I doubt more than a dozen of you have even heard off. Some will require patience to enjoy, some movies - like cigars - are acquired taste, require a second viewing. Also some will probably be very meaningful to me because of the period of life I am right now (26 years old, kinda on a crossroads). For example a few years ago I didn't like Fight Club or The Graduate, now I find so much in them, recognize so much of my emotions they are one of my favorites while in 10 years or so I'll probably feel indifferent watching them. So, while there is that "age" aspect, there's only 3-4 movies where age can influence my choice. Other 95 or so movies are for Guys from 20 to 120. I'll state basic information, reason why that particular movie is on the list and somewhere a memorable quote. Again, this is in no particular order, No 100 is not the worst of the bunch, neither is No 1 the best. p.s. I hope you guys don't mind me doing this, if you do (moderators or whomever) just say so and I'll stop 100 to 96: 100. "Why didn't anyone think of that before? It's so stupid, it's positively brilliant!" The Great Escape - 1963 Director: John Sturges Starring: Steve McQueen, James Garner, Charles Bronson, Donald Pleasence, James Coburn and Richard Attenborough. The Movie:James Bond willingly falls into an assassination ploy involving a naive Russian beauty in order to retrieve a Soviet encryption device that was stolen by SPECTRE. bassman Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I would say Unforgiven revived the western, rather than killed it.

stefan850 Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 I would say Unforgiven revived the western, rather than killed it. I said "Because it single handedly killed the Hollywood Western genre as we know it." meaning there was no way you could look at all those classical Hollywood western movies with same eyes after you have seen Unforgiven. It has demystified it. Especially in that one long speech Gene Hackman's Wild Bill tells to that writer guy. Western Genre is not the same after Unforgiven. So I agree with you I just wasn't clear enough with what I was trying to say, sorry p.s.Spaghetti Westerns not included in the discussion. They are a genre of there own

"I'll f*ck anything that moves! " Blue Velvet - 1986 Director: David Lynch Stars: Isabella Rossellini, Kyle MacLachlan and Dennis Hopper The Movie: After finding a severed human ear in a field, a young man soon discovers a sinister underworld lying just beneath his idyllic suburban home town. Also because Ben Affleck suprised us all by directing a great, dark movie. 76. "We're something, aren't we? The only animals that shove things up their ass for survival. FireDigger Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Fight Club is my personal #1. His name is Robert Paulson.
docbp87 Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 And for a while I had a bizarre obsession with The Wild Bunch (and all things Peckinpah in general). Spent a stint in film school and have never been the same since. I have around 5,000 films in my collection, and just can't stop watching. My first, real passion for sure in life.

I love all this Peckinpah, I love that general Peckinpah vibe of men being men...I kinda miss that, in this PC/healthy life day and age.
