I managed to track down, and smoke, all the cigars on the Top 10 list.

The Viaje, EP Carillo and La Aroma de Cuba were amongst the most disappointing cigars I have smoked this year. The OpusX xXx was a decent cigar, but needs some rest to truly shine. I was impressed by the Illusione, while the Padron is not bad but $20+ is a hefty price to pay for one.

Not sure how much I trust the CA ratings, some of the reviews really make me scratch my head at times.

I hear ya, but I figure if you cant trust CA from time to time, who can you trust right? I did have an Opus X as well and enjoyed it very much. Cant wait for my Behike's, gonna smoke one right off the bat and put the rest down for a long nap..

FWIW, they rate the cigar on the 1st inch smoked. At least that's what I've read. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If they do, it's quite silly. Part of a cigar's pleasure is how it develops while smoking.

I tried my share of the "top 25" and the one that stands out for me was the Viaje - what a vile POS dog **** that was! :2thumbs: Unbelievable.

While I often disagree with their ratings anyway, that one took the cake.

I agree. Viaje cigars are disgusting. End of story.

And yes, for the CA rankings, they only smoke the first inch of the cigar, which is just ludicrous.

The only NCs that I actually liked on their list were the Opus, Illusione and Oliva. BTW, I find that Oliva cigars are, to my pallet, the best NCs out there. I recently picked up a couple boxes of the Series V No. 4 PCs (a limited release in the US last month that may become a regular release cigar in the US) and they are wonderful to the point where I crave smoking them. I will say that the EP Carillo 2010 LE was a decent cigar, compared to most of the other NCs on their list, but I wouldn't go out of my way to smoke one.

We can trust them to...

- Keep us entertained with their antics

- Cause you endless hours editing videos

- Arguing as to who caught the biggest minnow

The list goes on and on!

Cant Say those two @ CA could hold a candle to Rob and Kens reviews..

What I meant to say was" Rob,Ken AND SMITHY.... "

*I think the Viaje made the crapcigar.com list for s'iest S of all. As for EP Carillo, they're about average as far as "will do" smoke. Speaking of smoke...I enjoy "Smoke Magazine"'s reviews very much. Much more thorough, precise and better tried. I do not alway find the cigars they recommend all THAT much, but I do respect their review methods much, much, much more than Cigar Aficionado's. :D

I haven't had a good one yet myself.

Viaje also has a ton of limited releases each year. Each release sends their fans into a rabid frenzy, trying to hunt down every single last "Easter egg" and then post pictures on forums.

Hype machine at its best, I'd have to say.

Pete Tatuaje is also a master of hype with his"limited runs" and halloween gars.....almost as bad as Rocky Pooptel

Take a look at this recent triple banded monstrosity.

I agree with the general conces, in my opinion %99.5 of NCs are hype. B) When I first started smoking cigars, I actually fell victim to the NC hype machines ie CA, podcasts and forums, to an extent where I stopped buying CCs all together. :shead: And not having NCs in Bahrain kinda gave NCs a bit of forbidden fruit aura

So, what brought me back to CCs? Well, the lights finally came on while I was listening to my favourite podcast (at the time) bashing a H.Upmann EL09 and claiming it's a dog **** while praising a marcelago. That was it, it seemed that the only thing (one of the reviewers) was focused on was bashing Cuba in general and it's cigars.. I know that it's a matter of taste but if you were looking for peppery/nicotine bombs, your smoking the wrong product.. Go for cigarettes. They are waaaay cheaper. [rant's over]

Huh ? How in the world is that an accurate statement. If that is correct, then please go ahead and roll %99.5 of CCs into the mix, especially all of the LEs. I'm by no means a CC hater but that opinion has me scratch my head over and over ...

You either love CA or hate. Most of those that love CA are rolling in cash, wearing ROLEXes, relaxing over the weekend on yacht or cruising in Malibu in $200k ferrari. CA doesn't cater to average cigar smoker, period. Their reviews are questionable, period.

Viaje - same feedback. Andre Farkas is building quite an empire through his marketing tactics. Are all his cigars horrible, absolutely NOT. Should they all be purchased, absolutely NOT. I never got sick off Viaje and never heard of anyone getting sick off Viaje specifically. I personally pick and choose. I enjoyed few Viaje releases but smoked plenty that didn't do anything for me.

No doubt HSA are big on marketing (or hype if you like) - with the proliferation of REs, Els, special humidors, LCDH only releases etc - and plenty

of people who eagerly look to collect as many as possible (which is fine by me). Even regular production with double bands (Upmann Magnum 46

for example).

Are all these cigars great or even good?
