CohibaBehike Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Tomorrow is going to be a spring humidor cleaning and reorganizing for me. I'll fill everything, check boveda's in the desktops, and reorganize my wine cooler. I'm also going to take stock of what I have and try and make room for cigars that I have piled in ziplock bags with bovedas. I do this like twice a year and was interested to see if it's because I'm crazy (or lazy) and to see what other people do. Is it just me?
maverickdrinker Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 i am the same way. i do this quarterly. check every box for mold/beetles. move some cigars into my smoking humidor. check on which boxes i am low in so i can plan some orders.
Ravenwood Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Yeah, I like to finger my cigars at least once a month and rotate things around. Heck, I admit it, it's just an excuse to look and smell. RW
Ghabanos Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Just me being nosey, but will u guys be sharing pics of your progress and inventory. I was thnking every quarter to do a cleaning, but only have a desktop to play with...
Stalebread Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Yep, twice a year I open and check all boxes and inspect all singles. In between times, I spot check boxes and generally keep an eye on the singles drawer.

stogieokie Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 My cabinet humi is one of the few things in my life that is truly organized. I keep an excel spreadsheet of everything that's in it, and part of that includes a date when I last inspected a box. I'll go through it periodically and check boxes that haven't been done in a while. Since I got my Staebell MxtPlus 26.5 (which is also temp controlled) I'm less anal about checking on a scheduled/frequent basis.
mm12 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I used to do this a couple of times a year but it just got unwieldy as my collection grew. Now, it's a decent pain in the ass just to get a single stick from a box buried deep in my cabinet. I can't imagine going through everything.
OZCUBAN Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I do my wine cooler whenever the urge takes me plus I am Paranoid Oz
BobLobLaw Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I also do this periodically. Usually when I have a nice night to myself. I check all my stock. Move cigars I want to smoke to the top and bury those I want to age. I also have a spreadsheet I update as I go along.
Lotusguy Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I have serious cigar-OCD and check my stock much more often than once a year. Probably about once a month.
davidl Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Hey - it just occurred to me that I read once in "Cigars" by Flammarion (Owners of Gerard, Geneve) that cigars need to be brushed off every now at then in order to clear the pores of humidity and sawdust that settle block the wrappers pores. He says that it is one of the most important aspects of aging cigars. Has anyone heard of this?
davidl Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Where is the sawdust from? I am assuming from the cigar boxes....
SmokinLightning Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I treat my cabinet humidor like that government warehouse in "Raiders of the Lost Ark". I never know exactly what's hiding in there, I like to be surprised...
cigcars Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 *You know, when I re-humidify my cigars (which is about once every 2 to 3 months - still using distilled water requiring humidifiers), and when I have to re-arrange them, I wonder if it doesn't just end up being twice a year. Hmm I'm thinking for myself, I probably re-arrange go thru, clear thru my smokes about 3 to 4 times a year (am constantly re-ordering...would go into DT's otherwise! ) Have about 3 shipments due now (including one from the Czar! ) and have cleared out/through three of my humidors to make room. Did this just two hours ago.
