Well, it's looking like it's going to be an exciting week! The Mrs. and Mini-Me hopped on a plane this morning out of Detroit, heading down to Tampa to visit the in-laws at their condo in Clearwater for the week. The Better-Half and Junior won't be back until about 10pm or so on Friday. Also, the weather this week is looking to be quite nice, considering the time of year:

And, the forecast keeps getting a bit better and better. Just two days ago, we were looking at a potential high of only 7 degrees Celsius. Now it's showing +5 on Wednesday, 8 on Thursday, and then 10 on Friday. Considering it's the middle of February, this is a chunk of some "indian-summer"-like weather for us, especially when only this past week, we had some minus 24 temps in play.

So.......

With these unseasonably mild temps, and the Mrs. gone (so no hassling of "Go brush your teeth before you kiss me with your cigar breath!"), and with her taking Mini-Me with her (so no hassling of "Daddy! I want to shovel outside!"), I have no timelines or plans or responsibilities to settle into for the week. Outside of being at work during the days, my time is mine! So I'm going to be getting some stuff done in the garage and outside, to try to get a jump start on spring. And, I'll no doubt FINALLY have the opportunity to indulge in a number of cigars this week, paired with A WHOLE LOTTA RUM!!!! Yippee!!!!

What cigars are HOT right now? Any recommendations on stuff to smoke at this particular time? I have a thread going with all my wares in it (see CanuckSARTech's Cuban Collection), so are there any items in particular that anyone would like a specific review or look at in particular? My pairing for most of the week will be Havana Club Barrel-Proof and Ron Zacapa 23 Years Solera - I have a couple of bottles of that stuff set aside and ready to refuel me for the week. :o:party::D I know I want to dip into my HQ box of RASS from Czar's, which arrived just before the non-cigar Canadian winter weather hit.

But, is there anything that anyone wants me to have a stab at cigar-wise this week?

Well then...let me start loading the page with the pictures of your collection again and I'll get back to you in an hour or so! :D

I'm not sure the Aussies can appreciate the joy that comes to a Canadian cigar smoker when the sun peeks out in February and the wife is away. Enjoy the Ron Cubano y tabacos!

PS My wife said to me one day, "Who is this Ron Cubano, and why is his name on all these bottles?"

I had a gorgeous Mag 46 from the same box code you have on thursday!

And the R&J No. 2 was actually my first CC; now and then I pick up a tube or two and share it with someone who hasn't had any Cubans before.

Enjoy your week of paradise!

I want you to review Romeo 2. What makes Romeo 1-3 so popular habana worldwide and what makes FoH members to shun them?

I have wondered this too actually

I second the Mag46. I've been thinking about those for my first box purchase!

Will do. That box should be getting plenty ready right now. I'll look up my notes from when I had my last one too...

No doubt - a bit hard with the current server. You should see it when we have a LFTH thread going - it's going right now as I type. L-o-n-g-t-i-m-e...

So true, Atchbo. Us Canucks (as well as some northern European and Eur-Asian BOTLs) know too well the winter doldrums.

And tell your wife that Ron is a true friend to all who enjoy a cigar! :P

So true. With smoking indoors a "no no" any decent wind free day above zero is like an oasis in the desert.

Keith. Write up some reviews. And since you have some free time. Smoke a Cuaba Diadema or Monte A. :whip:

You lucky you!

I just can't do nothing but hate this:

And one vote for M46. I'm currently struggling between M46 and PC, which ones to buy.

Well, it ended up being quite a nice week. The Mrs. and Mini-Me were gone, and I only had her call to check up on me twice during the week (funny, but not even a single phone call on Valentine's Day - amazing how women can get away with this, but if us men do it... :whip::P).

Anywho, with the weather breaking, I managed to crack into the requested cigars (sans block-o-cheese), and smoked a number of others also.

Wednesday...

La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No. 3, Oct. 2000 "OSU" box. Rated it a solid 92. Nubbed this cigar, my 1st of these No. 3's (enjoyed No. 1's and 2's previously), no harshness present at all. Very well aged and refined. Very light bodied, with not much smoke at all (thus robbing it of a couple of points), flavours of mild tea, with citrus tones and grassiness, last third had discernable hints of fresh bread dough.

Romeo y Julieta Romeo No. 2 tubos, Ago. 2008 "MAS" box. Rated it a disappointing 82. This was a plugged and extremely overfilled cigar - it was very firm, and the foot was visible with obviously too much tobacco stuffed into this cigar. Initially, it showed strong hits of unsweetened cherries (what I like in R&J especially, and what I've seen referred to as stewed cherries, or unsweetened cherry pie filling), as well as fresh dark leather. But, it was extremely plugged. Cut off a 1/4 of the cigar, tried again, ended up smoking it then to the 1/2-way point, but it took a half-hour to just go that 1/4 length. Said screw it, and set it aside, too plugged. If draw was okay, the flavour profile showed a chance of this hitting a solid 88, if not more.

[A quick note here on these Romeo No. 2 tubos. If this was not plugged/overfilled, it could have been great. What I like about this cigar, is the sizing - it's a 42 ring gauge, by a 5 1/8" length, a mareva similar in format to the Monte No. 4 or Dip 4's. To answer some earlier question, I think that these are so popular due to their format, as previous. Also, the tubos presentation is top notch. Also, the price, at $100 to $120 for a box, is right to fit in most modest budgets for Cuban cigars. They're great as a gift/presentation also, due to their tubos format. And, while I enjoy partaking in it's flavour profile from time to time (same as with the R&J Coronitas en Cedro), I think the reason that most Habano-philes avoid them is maybe due to their inexpensiveness, as well as the tendency, from time to time, that it's very hit and miss from cigar to cigar on whether you get a dud. That said, this is only my 2nd dud in this particular box of 25, with about half smoked. Granted, still not great - I want a good cigar every time. But for the price, it's also hard to complain, as the flavours are so in-your-face and different from most stuff out there. Just my thoughts on the earlier question about these. Now....]

Thursday...

Ramon Allones Specially Selected, May 2010 "POL" box (an HQ box from Czar's). Rated it a firm 92. First third - a bit tangy, wheat/toast tones, brown sugar hints. Second third - fresh bread dough, dark molasses essences lingering lightly on the edges. Final third - a bit of sweet spice, medium full for sure. A great 50 minute smoke. Wonderful for being so young! Looking forward to these as the months and years progress along for this box.

Friday...

H. Upmann Magnum 46 tubos, May 2008 "OBE" packs. Rated it a disheartening 88. I was hoping for more. Pre-light of gingerbread, last 1/3 was a bit harsh. It was smoked during some very windy conditions, burn was all over and too hot. There were some florals with honey in there, but not enough. Just left me a bit underwhelmed - not sure if it was a dud cigar, or if it was more due to the smoking conditions.

So, I was essentially 0-for-2 on my main requested smokes for the week. Thankfully, there was a bit of redemption...

Later on Friday...

Cohiba Maduro 5 Secretos, Nov. 2007 "LPM" box. Rated it a smashing 93, if not higher. A wonderful 35-minute smoke; my main negative is that it was too short of an experience. First third - coffee, rich tobacco, dark tones (not quite earthy, but it just had that "dark" sensation to it). Second third - harsh for a few puffs (I was smoking it WAY too fast, just delicious!), brown sugar but without the sweetness, and interestingly, this baby had very present hints of stewed blueberries to it! Never noticed this before, but it was very much there. Yum! The smoke was very velvetty and dense at this point. Final third - old leather, richness of texture to the flavours, and a density of the smoke and flavours. Just great.

Saturday...

Even as the Mrs. and Mini-Me were back at home, I was still able to enjoy a lovely finale to the week, while working out in the garage on a project during some very nice weather.

Diplomaticos No. 4, Feb. 2009 "OPM" box. Rated it a firm 92, with lots of room to go up. Wonderful. My first of these boxes that I recently got. Lots of smoke (just absolutely billowing and free-flowing when I puffed), not really dense, but billowing. Nutmeg and sweeter orange peel tones, some saffron and mild spices, with daffodil tea. A lovely milkiness to this cigar.

Well, all-in-all, a great week. I'm glad we had the break in the winter weather (had another 8 inches of snow yesterday, so spring's not here yet!).

Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed the reviews, and sorry for the lackluster cell phone camera pictures.

Cheers.

It sounds like you had a great time especially with the added bonus of some decent weather! Too bad about the Mag...I feel as though it is my fault somehow. Okay...not really.

Thanks for the reviews Canuck, and especially for doing the Romeo no. 2. That Secretos looks tasty!

Yeah, I want to revisit the Romeo No. 2 and the Magnum 46 once the weather breaks for the spring, and starts to warm up. I was disappointed by both of these, and they're usually both very dependable as a decent and quality smoke, respectively, usually in the 88 and 90 range each, again respectively. I want to revisit them, to give things another go around, to see if I just was unlucky enough to grab the bad one of each out of their respective boxes.

You got big hands mate. U make a RASS looks like small club. Hehehehehhehe

LOL. Yup, big meat hooks. You should hear me hit a heavy bag!

A big reason why the EXTREMELY long & skinnies (like that MdO No. 3 at the start of the pictures) are almost uncomfortable for me to hold and enjoy. I lika me some robustos and piramides and some corona gordas too!

Dude, I don't know HOW I missed your post. Sounded like an awesome week filled with some great cigars. Thanks for sharing all the reviews brother. Each of them sounded great, to bad on the miss of the Mag 46.

I'm not sure what kind of "guy" you are but speaking for myself, when the wife is gone or Im out on business, it doesn't take long for me to look forward to reuniting. Glad to hear the Mrs and kid are back safe. And not brushing your teeth before kissing your woman, COME ON MAN!! :rotfl::yes:
