Mr. Japan Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 It is true that I write less and less on this board, but I feel part of the family so I want share also with you all about our last event in Italy. Last Saturday I was in Brindisi city to the local annual cigar event and as usual it was organized perfectly by the local club Alto Salento. Met after a long time Simon Chase plus many other italian afficonados including two champagne experts as Luigi Larocca and writer Alberto Lupetti. We smoked Don Candido matched with two magnums of 1959 Moet Chandon. The cigar where in perfect conditions and all 25 smoked greatly, some where very strong almost unbeliavable for a 50 years cigar but the majority were smooth and well balanced with a perfect evolution. The box indicated "claro" but I do not know if for teh aging but they where all almost Colorado. The two magnum of champagne , even same year , were competely different. One was fresh and fruity the second one was more "winish" less fresh. For most of us the second one paired better to the cigar but the question that came up was : Champagne with cigar is for cleaning the mouth or it must pair/match together with the cigar? I add some photo's from Magali del la Cruz facebook page. Many are over there. p.s. : Of course next big event in Italy will be in June 2011 : V AMICIGAR DAY in Napoli :-)))))
laficion Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Gino, Great event and the photos are wonderful, thanks for sharing with the FAMILY The Don Candido looks fantastic. As to whether the champagne goes well with cigars, for me, I would say yes because, not only does it refresh the mouth and taste bubs but the wine is subtle enough to not over come the cigar and vice versa, because of the carbonation, the cigar will show a short but definite spicy edge which is quite enjoyable.
anacostiakat Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Well, not a champagne fan. Not to say I wouldnt try some. Great pics! Thanks!!
Colt45 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 ..... but the question that came up was : Champagne with cigar is for cleaning the mouth or it must pair/match together with the cigar? I think sparklers go great with cigars. I agree with Guy - I feel both are able to maintain their respective identities, neither altering the other, each able to stand up to the other so to speak. I feel the same about crisp white wines in general. Red wine - not so much..... Thanks for the report!
mbrody Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Thank you for sharing this great event with us!
