Based purely on flavor and smoking characteristics, with no points for price, etc.... Which do you prefer, and WHY?

:) BOTH!!! B):D

Never cared for the flavor of the Mag 46, but a well aged #2 is sublime. 01s & 03s tasting great now.

I prefer the Mag 46, but there's nothing wrong with the Upmann Piramide. I'm smoking from an ENE03 box that is in the zone. Strong and rich.

It's a difficult question. I love both. But in the end, I prefer the Magnum 46.

But as bassman said, a well-aged No. 2 is a great cigar with great flavor.

Difficult to say. '01 No. 2's are smoking very well right now. I haven't had a Mag 46 from the same year, but the '02 46's I have are quite good. At the end, I'd have to give the nod to the No. 2's. Can't speak for recent production.

I gotta go with the #2 too. The 04's are tasting great too ;)

Both are great cigars when on. I've enjoyed more No.2's than Mag 46's. So the No.2 gets my vote.

Tough call...

I really like the 46 (when aged). For now I prefer them over the #2. Still, seeing how my taste for wine and whisky has developed over the years - from young and wild to mature, complex and oomph on a different level it's not very difficult to imagine myself being completely happy with a #2 in years of time. Somehow the 46 doesn't have enough on the shelf to provide me the image that the #2 is capable of.

(arrr... English is clearly not my 'native' lingo, still I hope you get the picture...)

Been through a whole box of 2002 Upmann #2's (smoked 5 yrs later) and they were very powerful, rich and complex cigars that took about 90mins to smoke. I've only had one Mag#46 ever so haven't voted as it is not a fair comparison.
