mhartnett Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Based purely on flavor and smoking characteristics, with no points for price, etc.... Which do you prefer, and WHY?
cigcars Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Based purely on flavor and smoking characteristics, with no points for price, etc.... Which do you prefer, and WHY? BOTH!!!
bassman Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Never cared for the flavor of the Mag 46, but a well aged #2 is sublime. 01s & 03s tasting great now.
shrink Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 I prefer the Mag 46, but there's nothing wrong with the Upmann Piramide. I'm smoking from an ENE03 box that is in the zone. Strong and rich.
AlexOk Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 It's a difficult question. I love both. But in the end, I prefer the Magnum 46. But as bassman said, a well-aged No. 2 is a great cigar with great flavor.
anacostiakat Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 I like them both but prefer the Mag 46. I find them more flavorful and more consistent.
BobLobLaw Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Never had the No2, but I hear good things. I do love the Mag 46 though!
Bartolomeo Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 #2 but both are good 08 #2 are actually not that bad right now Bart
BobbyRitz Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Difficult to say. '01 No. 2's are smoking very well right now. I haven't had a Mag 46 from the same year, but the '02 46's I have are quite good. At the end, I'd have to give the nod to the No. 2's. Can't speak for recent production.
steve047 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Never cared for the flavor of the Mag 46, but a well aged #2 is sublime. 01s & 03s tasting great now. [/quote I gotta go with the #2 too. The 04's are tasting great too
khomeinist Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 #2. I agree that Mag 46 have improved, but I am still bitter about some 46s I had from 2003.
mhartnett Posted July 23, 2010 Author Posted July 23, 2010 Hmm... At first it seemed like it was the 46 by a mile, but now the #2 is back in this.
Wicky Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 After smoking many 46s, just smoked my first #2. Wow! Tough call!
ksblazer Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Both are great cigars when on. I've enjoyed more No.2's than Mag 46's. So the No.2 gets my vote.
Kangaroo495 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I've never gotten the hype over the Mag46, tried them so many times. I guess it's just not my things... Have had a few very decent No. 2s though!
Michel1968 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Tough call... I really like the 46 (when aged). For now I prefer them over the #2. Still, seeing how my taste for wine and whisky has developed over the years - from young and wild to mature, complex and oomph on a different level it's not very difficult to imagine myself being completely happy with a #2 in years of time. Somehow the 46 doesn't have enough on the shelf to provide me the image that the #2 is capable of. (arrr... English is clearly not my 'native' lingo, still I hope you get the picture...)
winelover Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Been through a whole box of 2002 Upmann #2's (smoked 5 yrs later) and they were very powerful, rich and complex cigars that took about 90mins to smoke. I've only had one Mag#46 ever so haven't voted as it is not a fair comparison.
SethLG Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Touch call, but in the end I would go with the Mag 46, partially because it is my choice size.
