I was sitting here tonight, wondering, if I wasn't able to buy another Cuban cigar for whatever reason, how long would my current stash last if I didn't change my smoking habits? I'm figuring roughly 1.5 years, tops. Way too little when I think about it.

How about you? Do you have enough cigars put away should something prevent you from replenishing your stock? How long do you think it'll last, and is it enough??? Or have you gone a little nuts and have more than you'll ever be able to enjoy?

I have definitely gone a little nuts in the last 5 months.....since mid January I started using the online locker with czar and have 19 boxes  in there at present.....but most are recent discontinueds that I refuse to miss out on. Add to the 250 odd cigars in boxes and singles here at home in the humi, and I've probably got enough for a half-decade at current smoking rates, a decade if I stretched it out.

If for some reason I could no longer replenish my stock, I'd probably go into lockdown mode and ration out my remaining cigars to last for 20 years.....I'd rather not contemplate that though!

I've probably enough for a few years, but I wouldn't sweat it either way. I'd enjoy what I do have, buy the occasional NC when I felt the urge,

and put my cigar $$ toward wine

I would essentially go cold turkey. The sheer thought of "rationing" would drive me around the bend

...restraint is not a strong point.

I guess I'd end up making all you guys rich

man that would suck but I would be smoking habanos until 2018 or so... and anyone caught within 3 feet of the humidor would be liable to lose a limb.

Cigars are meant to be smoked. If TSHTF and there were no more to be had, I'm sure I'd be more selective about when to smoke what I've got, but I'd try not to let myself think of it as rationing.

Otherwise it's too easy to fall into the trap of never smoking them at all for fear of not having any later. I sort of did that already before I realized that my access to CC's was not as limited as I thought and that they really need not be any more expensive than NC's (perhaps less).

Sure it's nice to have a handful of well aged cigars around, but it would have been better to have smoked them all along instead of some of the dog rockets I put up with in order to preserve my "collection".

Anyway, to answer the OP, I'd last about 4 or 5 years at current pace. That includes mixing in some NC's already. So, if it's only CC's that disappeared, what I've got would probably last a little longer just through my natural inclination to explore readily available NC's more thoroughly again.

My cuban stash would last for a couple of years I guess.... and they would be mine, mine and just MINE!! Precioussssssss!!

Less than 6months, lol. Im still slowly building my stocks. Cant imagine what it would be like with the CC and dont want to imagine it. NCs would come into play occasionally, but as Colt said, I too would invest in wine and spirits.

Six years, give or take.

Maybe more since I seem to be entering a phase where I'm smoking even less.

But I still have the barely controlled urge to buy them.

Hmmmm . . . what would my "last box" be?

Posted

My stash would last a few weeks. I wouldn't decrease my rate of smoking, as I have absolutely no self control.

Would prob end up smoking non-Cubans, which would likely eventually drive me to stop smoking cigars at some point in the future.

Thankfully (or sadly depending on your point of view) there is about as much of a chance of Cuba shutting down production as there is of my wife bringing home a beautiful blond to share our bedroom for Father's day, B-day Xmas ect. Ain't gonna happen.

Perish the thought. Right now I smoke both CCs and NCs, but if I were to cut out NCs entirely and smoke only one CC per day...my current stash should last about 3 years.

Posted

I guess I better get to buying more since I have all of 20 sticks at the moment.

I did go a year without buying a single cigar and saw a modest dent in the stash so I guess 6+ years. If they did stop producing I might be tempted to cash in on the skyrocketing prices and buy another motorcycle.LOL. Or home?

I could go back to NCs but would hate to. Since the likelyhood is low I'm not worrying. If the threat of this was real I am sure Rob would up and buy the island and correct the situation.

I guess I'm good for 10-12 years, without changing my habits.

Since I'm closing in on age 60, no worries.

One thing sure, though, is that Cuba will will never kill the goose that lays golden eggs,

but since I always live on the edge financially,

it is quite possible that at some point I will have to cut back or stop continued purchasing.

Hopefully, I will live long enough to smoke through my stash...

I may be living on beans and rice in my old age,

but at least I will wash them down with fine vintage wine,

and end the meal with a well-aged Cuban cigar. :P

I buy a modest stock for the year of roughly 50 cigars, each spring. Occasionally a handful will end up being aged for a couple of years before being smoked up. So mine wouldn't last long!

That's more a budget thing at the moment, not an accurate reflection of my love for Havanas. If they ever ceased all cigar production in Cuba, I'd probably kill myself.

I'm not going there, visualize only the good things in life. This is sort of like saying to yourself I am not going to slice into the woods on the first tee, you look over at the woods with contempt and... bam you just visualized it and it happens. I am not going there...

I think I have for around 10 years, if i stretch it I would probably last 20... but i dont want to..

Round the same. Plus like Colt said I would buy more NC to fill the gaps.
