Great review. A line of cigars I have too often overlooked. My favorite line was "people who have a life" Our County Jail has the same prison stripe colors as Ken! Good to see Ken out on parole as well. Be sure to tell him to be careful with the wave when he goes back to prison.

Rob & Ken,

Truly enjoyed your video review of my favorite everyday CG cigar

and companion in my cigar life. I've looked at all the cigar reviews on FOH over the years

and did not see many for the Series A. I have no Idea why I enjoy this CG

over some others that I find as good if not better then my A's. It's a certain atmostphere

that I enjoy with this cigar. I love it's elegance, it's delicate silkiness but also it's balanced

creaminess mixed with animal leathery notes. Yes, I'm sure that they've touched up the

blend to a richer level around 2007-2008, but it has kept its main characteristics .

I know that they are not a big seller on the market but I just hope and cross my fingers

that they will not be discontinued in the coming years. :daydream:

Thanks for the great review.

One of my favorite brands. I remember the first Serie A I smoked, like the best peanut butter cookie I'd ever tasted.

Got two cabs from 06 and have just started to sample a few, looks like I need to get some newer boxes to try the blend change.

Where's all that gorgeous tobacco that went into the Churchills going to go?

Thanks for the review. I really like the DC's, PC's and Coronas. Sounds like I need to re-visit the Serie A's.

I agree with you guys that think SLR are underated and a great value.

Just wondering if the vids are now in a different format? Doesn't seem to play on iphone...or is it just me?

:daydream: Same problem with my iPhone. Have the same bad symbol as the Club Czar Time clock. I'm sure Smithy will bend the technology to his will. :D

The wonderful argument between Apple iPhone and Adobe Flash. The embedding of the Youtube files and clock must have a Flash component in them and hence cannot be viewed on your iPhone.

If you want to view this review on you iPhone, goto the Youtube tab on your iphone and type in Saint Luis Rey Serie A in the search section and it will come up.

I can't speak for all Americans as language is fairly regionalized here. Pomologists use the term. Wine critics use the term. Knowledge of produce is not universal here though. I would suspect that many Americans have not tried an apricot for example.

Please nobody take offense. I am an egg-headed scientist.

Not sure if 'stone-fruit' is particularly precise though. Is a white peach much like a dark plum? Is a viognier much like a merlot? Your thoughts Ken?

I have a box of these, HQ with the same code and I've enjoyed the couple that I've smoked so far. I agree that they seem to be richer and more flavorful than Serie A's that I've smoked in the past

it is simply the name we use for them. i suppose if you transfer it to wine, fruit equates to red wine, stone-fruit might then equate to say the 'bordeaux blends' and apricot to merlot, for example. in common use here.

shorter oxford describes stone-fruit as "a fruit having the seed or kernel surrounded by a stone within the pulp". so peach and plum would qualify.

never realised it wasn't a universal term.

Regardless, I was just trying to point out that the term is not very precise. Of course you know this. My point about peaches and plums just points out that the specific signifiers might be more useful than the general category of 'stone fruit.'

I think I understand the use of stone fruit as a general descriptor - especially when the flavor might not be well defined or might be subtle.

I look at it as, let's say, stone fruit(s) as opposed to citrus. I've used citrus as a descriptor when I might not have been able to distinguish

between orange and tangerine for example, or when there has been some overlap.

i understand exactly what you mean.

it is simply our term for that 'grouping' of fruit. in tasting notes the more specific the helpful usually. SLR does tend to the apricot (never tried one with a viognier but might be worth it - i find lots of 'apricot' in viognier in case that didn't make sense).

using stonefruit might be a bit like someone saying i went to the zoo and enjoyed the cats. whether that be lions or tigers or leopards is not clear and they could have been more specific but at least you are on the right track.

in australia - obviously speaking for others re this would be presumptuous - we tend to refer to it knowing everyone here knows exactly what we mean. for an example, we refer to stonefruit regions - as in those areas that have the right conditions for growing those type of fruit.

i had forgotten just how different our common language is in different countries - when i worked in a law firm in DC years ago, every friday at morning tea, i was expected to come up with a string of expressions from australia to entertain our group. amazing the number that were utterly unfamiliar to them.

imagine telling american lawyers to 'stone the crows' or not 'come the raw prawn' etc etc.
