JMacSr Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Thought this little gem would catch everyone's attention as we get into BBQ season in the States. Called the Bacon Explosion, it is a work of art. 1. Make a "quilt" of bacon and season with BBQ rub. 2. Spread out about a pound of fresh sausage, cheese (optional), crumbled cooked bacon, and your favorite BBQ sauce. 3. Roll it up and and wrap in foil, put it into the cooler to allow it to set. 4. Cook over indirect fire for about 2 - 2.5 hours Enjoy
dochowl Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Damn... that is quite possibly the most amazing use of bacon I have ever seen.
maalouly Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 That looks amazing, can only imagine the heart problems I would have if I was to have it every week.
fugwumpy Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Wow, I have to give that one a try, thanks! Good thing I'm in training for hardening of the arteries
gerem Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 That's amazing!!!! I need to try that!!!! Thanks for sharing.
dochowl Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 OK... in your expert opinion, does the cheese really work with this? or is it just spoiling the over the top use of pig meats?
JMacSr Posted May 6, 2010 Author Posted May 6, 2010 OK... in your expert opinion, does the cheese really work with this? or is it just spoiling the over the top use of pig meats? I've made it with and without, however you prefer. It can also be sliced after cooled and served on hamburger bun with cheese at that time.
BlackFriar Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Are you a cardiologist trying to drum up business? Either way I'm gonna try making one; looks wonderful.
dochowl Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 This very well may become the centerpiece of m wife's mother's day brunch.
El Presidente Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 This very well may become the centerpiece of m wife's mother's day brunch. Cooking this one Sunday
bunburyist Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 OUT STANDING seriously, providing at least one recipe like this should be mandatory for all forum users. Top of the class JMac
khomeinist Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Good stuff. I throw Jimmy Dean sausage rolls (ground sausage packaged in a tube) in my smoker several times a year. Instant hit. Drool. Slice. Serve. Drool some more.
MIKA27 Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Truly a work of art mate and something one can customise to their liking should they not like the cheese option. I for one will use this recipe. Seriously bud, thanks for sharing.
Kangaroo495 Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Brilliant. I would love to know the calloric value of this thing. Should be called "Bacon Suicide Bomber" Any more recipes you wanna share? Love the creativity.
dochowl Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Guess what someone had for Father's Day this year? It was my first time, and I think it turned out quite well. Taste was fantastic, yet extremely difficult to explain. I chose to slice it into 1/2" pieces and put those on a hamburger bun. Perfect. I loved it, as did the rest of my party. This recipe will go down in history as a classic. Paired with a PSdC#2 and a nap, I couldn't have asked for anything more.

dochowl Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Outstanding, and Happy Fathers Day!! Thanks JMacSr... this really did brighten my day.
dochowl Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 So, here's a useful bit of information... this recipe comes out at about 6200 calories in total and just under 500 grams of fat. That includes about 2 pounds of bacon, 12oz of sausage and 4 slices of cheese. Not too bad for all this porky deliciousness.
