jacksfull Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Looking for suggestions on a light-medium smoke for morning or mid-afternoon break... something with enough flavor not to be overwhelmed by a cup o' joe. Must be C&C or close to it. I don't want to blow my daily budget on the first cigar of the day. Haven't had a Fonseca in years (looking at Cosacos, Delicias), never had a Rafael González (considering RG Panetelas Extra), love PLPC's but never had any other Por Larrañagas (Panetelas, Montecarlos). Comments on these? Other recommendations?
Buch0 Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 If I feel like a cigar on my lunch break I usually pick one of the following three depending on what I see first: PUNCH PETIT CORONATIONS DIPLO #5 ROMEO Y JULIETA ROMEO NO.2 TUBOS The Diplo is a bit more fuller than the other two but it is one of my all time favourite cigars so its always hard to look past. The punch makes for a nice sub hour smoke, as does the RyJ and both complement a meal or coffee well.
Cubanface Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 A Por Larranaga Montecarlos will have you tasting buttered toast every time you smoke one. The perfect morning cigar for me which pairs nicely with coffee. I personally don't like Fonseca's any time of the day but everyone's palate is a bit different. I would get a box of the Panatela's when you feel cheap, and a box of the Montecarlos when you feel rich.
tsolomon Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I like the Juan Lopez Seleccion No.1 as a nice mid-morning/early afternoon smoke.
thechenman Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 PL Montecarlos make a great C&C moring smoke. The Fonseca Cosacos is not bad either. I prefer the No. 1, but would be happy with a Cosaos as well.
Professor Twain Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 My favorite cigars with coffee are Montes and Trinidads. Personal favorites are the Monte Especial #2 and the Monte 5. A Trini Reyes, or if you are feeling extravagant and have lots of time, a Fundadore, are outstanding choices.
android Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I like a Trini reyes & PL Montecarlos. Late morning I'll take a Parti short.
riderpride Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 PL Montecarlos are good, and so is the Hoyo Palmas Extra; perfect C&C for a morning smoke IMHO.

You only live once I guess, why not indulge
El Capitan Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I second the Punch Petit Coronations Tubo Buch0. Very underated consistent performer, with that Punch kick, they sometimes last me 50mins+, impressive for a small smoke. stargazer14 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 My fav is the Punch Petite Punch, love, love that with my coffee. You might also try a Monti Purito, these taste great, are cheap at under $2 a smoke, and last as long as your coffee.
Kangaroo495 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Anything from Quintero (Nacionales, Panatelas) - the most overlooked cigar ever. PL Panatelas - gorgeous smoke Cuaba Divino - can have construction problems, but the flavour will put you in a good mood for the rest of the day - guaranteed.
Geo17pip Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I would suggest anything small, due to the amount of time you have in the morning running to work or school, unless it is your day off. I like the Mont#5, El Principe, Cuaba Divino, ERDM Demi Tasse, Bolivar CJ.

I like the Mont#5, El Principe, Cuaba Divino, ERDM Demi Tasse, Bolivar CJ. El Principe...now that is a fine cigar.
ucla695 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I like to enjoy a Trini Reyes with my coffee in the morning.
patham Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Partagas Shorts, probably my all time favorite small cigar. These go great with coffee and make for a great start to the day. But you never really said how much time you have to enjoy a good smoke in the morning. If you're not rushed for time, grab your Shorts in cabs of 50 and smoke a few
bunburyist Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 would have to agree with the reyes - great little smoke
mgillett Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I am certainly not a big smoker but I have found that party shorts or monte 5 goes well mid-morning. Could also consider Cohiba Clubs. I rate these with a cup of strong coffee.
PADDYWHACK121272 Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 If you don't mind a very small cigar I would go with an ERDM Demi Tasse or a HdeM Le Hoyo de Marie - both fantastic 20 to 30min smokes with a coffee and suprising complexity for the size IMHO
jacksfull Posted May 8, 2010 Author Posted May 8, 2010 Many thanks to all for the suggestions. A lot of good ones! With an inexpensive morning smoke with coffee in mind, I picked up 3 to try, none of which I've had before: Rafael Gonzalez Panetelas Extra Por Larranaga Montecarlos Quintero Panetelas Still have my eye on some Fonsecas, too. Would love to add some of the Cohibas mentioned, but for the moment they're not in budget (not if I want some other primo choices for eveningtime, anyway). I was also recently gifted a box of Partagas Shorts, a choice recommended by several of you. I'm certainly willing to try these when I want a good strong morning wake-up call, though I'm more likely to save them for afternoons and evenings. I'm thinking they'd be especially good for afternoon breaks, or as a bedtime cigar when I just have a little time left to myself after an evening with the family (or get home late, bleary-eyed, and want just one more cigar before bed!).
NitrousPurger Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 small montes are quick and have the most coffee flavor from any other NC cigar ive tasted. Perfect for a morning coffee. Also the small julietas by R&J, i found, have a sweet profile that is almost chocolatly which i find great with coffee.
