  1. We talk now and then about Vintage Port and I wanted to let members know about a reference book that friend wrote on the subject I think a several members may have an interest in owning. This is the most comprehensive almanac on the history of Vintage Port ever written. It can easily be hailed as the "MRN of Vintage Port". This book was several years in the making and is used by auction houses to validate Lots that come to auction. The book is called Port Vintages - The Chronicle of Vintage Ports, from the Beginning and is worth getting if you have a fascination with one of the beloved wine styles or you're just into coffee table books. It's available in 1st edition for those who care about owning 1st editions. The author, Julian Wiseman is quite the authority on port and fun guy to share some vintages with if you get chance.   2. Anyone any deeper insight into the latest vintage? With the current price announcements and critic's notes having come to light, it is not a particularly hyped year, but most say, the best vintage since 2010, with the right bank having been particularly successful. While JRobinson sais it will drink "relatively early", but reports to be "glad to be able to report enthusiastically", I read one crtitics even speak of the "most beautiful year" in his 30-year career, Suckling calls it "extremely exciting"..... The typical "best vintage is current vintage"- gibbberish, or more flesh to it? My interpretation from what's published so far would be - at least heterogenous, and one will have to carefully select. Your take? Is it an attractive Bdx year? A solid or even good buy at prices up by about 15% on the 2014s? Perhaps even bargains to be had? Will it be a primeur buy? Cheers Paul
  3. So this is the sitch... Basically I want a really nice corner in my kitchen that will have both wine and cigars. From the research I've done, I can get split-temperature fridges, but this is much more focused at the wine enthusiast, and has limitations (such as humidity control only available at cellaring temperatures - 12-14c). In the long-run, I think I'll need 2 separate, small wine fridges, one of which I could convert for cigar use, one stacked on top of the other. This would be a great piece for the kitchen and look amazing. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can accomplish all of this with 2 small units? I'd prefer that both units are the same model.
  4. We're on the road again! Getting to tag along on a biz trip with mr beav. Wednesday- Friday Madrid. Saturday - Sunday Barcelona. Spain is cigar heaven to me because prices are great and this was one of the first Regionals I ever had and liked. Like Italy and many others, you really have to go there to get them.   5. Saw a trailer for this documentary and wondering if anyone has watched it yet. I know it's wine and not cigars, but I wonder how the concepts translate across. Might interest those in the blind tasting competition
  6. Just came across this article. "At the current pace, a global shortage of wine is fast approaching. “Data suggests there may be insufficient supply to meet demand in coming years, as current vintages are released,” the report says."
  7. http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/05/29/hollande-opening-vault-selling-off-treasured-presidential-bottles-of-wine/ May 30-31 in Paris, a wine auction will see the selling off of about 1200 of the bottles from the Presidential Cellar. Prices will range from 10's to 1000's of euros.
  8. So My wife and I are going next month to Havana to celebrate our anniversary (isn't she the best wife?) so we were wondering if we can bring a bottle or 2 of wine in to Cuba? When we went on our honey moon to Napa, we bought some special bottles that we only like to drink during our anniversary. So is it a go? or should we better buy our alcohol over there?
