anjimj Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I have an opportunity to buy some of these, but before I spend the coin I was wondering if anyone has tried them and what their thoughts were on them? Does the age really make the cigar smoother and tastier? What are your thoughts?
jdo2110 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I "traded" for a few of these from a guy on another Forum. They were SO unique that I'm dying to Have more. They were smooth and flavorful. I'm In the states and I know that folks in the UK like To have cream in their tea. Well, I've never had That, but when I smoked this cigar, that's what It reminded me of. A creamy, caramel, tea, with Hints of orange peel. If I find more 2005, I'm gonna buy them. Very nice!
Ophidion Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 A vendor got his hands on a lot of them and they have been available for quite a few months so far. The one 3x5 i bought was fantastic and for the price he is asking its a no brainer. Anyone who is trying to resell these (which I have seen quite a bit) is ripping you off (most likely)
CaptainQuintero Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Upmann is lovely with age, the leather turns to sweet cream. If you like cream go for it, if you prefer leather get fresh
anjimj Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Ophidian can you PM me the vendor you are talking about it? I think I know who you are talking about as these are 3X5's and great price!
dangolf18 Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 There's only one vendor that has this type of aged stock lol.
ramon_cojones Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 mine have ranged in flavors from excellent to ok, still skeptical about petacas
jimb2u Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 I have picked up and smoked some of these available 3x5 packs and while I enjoyed them, I think their long rest in cardboard has not treated them as kindly as cedar would have (IMHO) They were good enough for me to follow the lead of a couple of other folks and buy 3 boxes and get them out of the cardboard and into a spare cabinet to see what some time resting on each other in cedar will do to the flavor Jim
Smallclub Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 I don't like them, exactly like I didn't like the cabinets of Mag 46 or Connnoisseur #1 that I purchased in 2005/2006. The quality of the leaves and blend is more important than age, and 7 years in a carboard petacas doesn't help. But to be honest there are many cigars from 2005 and 2006 that I dislike…
Smallclub Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 btw, am I the only one to wonder why at the same time several vendors get an endless stock of Mag 46 in petacas, and Altadis Spain releases a jar containing 19 Mag 46 from 2005?

I did the same thing, took them out and put them in the drawers for now. I'll revisit at a later date.
Misterblue Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 I have a slb of '06 and recently added the 3x5 of '05 and the slb is better. Is it the paper vs cedar, I don't know...but to the original post - age is usually smoother, tastier is personal preference but IMHO and based on my humble experience they are generally better with age vs. ROTT.

Maybe somebody lost a few masterboxes for a while, though the jar thing's a little disconcerting...
oliverdst Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Maybe somebody lost a few masterboxes for a while, though the jar thing's a little disconcerting... are the jars still available??
sabourin Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Finished a box last year which was brilliant - perfect age for Mag 46 IMO If it's a nice box I would definitely grab it
kuma Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Anjimj, would you please pm me and let me know who the vendor is because I would like to purchase a box or two, thanks strider.
Habana Mike Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 are the jars still available?? Saw them in a couple of places, most seem out though - pm'ed ya
