Found one of these babies in a back-room Cigar store here in Victoria (mentioned by Hamlet when I met him actually!) It's a flower store in the front, but a wide selection of Canadian (read: high) priced Habanos is available in the back. I like to try as many REs as I can, and that VR Petit Robaina was a hit, so i picked up one.

I would have tried it right away, but after watching Rob get blown away by the RA Celestios Finos in a video review (and knowing he has much more Cigar experience than I do!) I'm wondering if I should give a year before lighting it up! Of course, it will be harder to find after a year....

I dunno, thoughts?

It looks lovely, oily and dark, but unfortunately no picture because my camera is on the fritz!

I will post a pic if I can get 'er working.

You must try it now to judge how it will be with some years on it do it.Also their is no proof that an aged cigar is better than a young cigar ( a year or less age)...

RA Celestios Finos have not been consistent we know what Rob said about them but from others they said excellant to bland with no flavor.

So it all comes down to you trying it your self and make your own decisions but it will help to try a few to be shure...

I picked up 5 to try I have just one left, like you say the wrapper is nice and dark and oily, mine were quite tight to touch but smoked like a dream, even burn right through and the draw was excellent.

I am brand new and havent been smoking CC's for long but I have enjoyed these more after each one, there is a bit of spice and a taste I cant quite nail down, but all I know is I smoked all 4 down to a nub if I didnt have a list as long as my arm of CC I wanted to try I would probably buy a box, I have tried a box of RASS and would buy the Unicos over them.

When you only have a single and have never tried the cigar before, I would personally allow it to stabilize in my humidor for at least 30 days and then smoke it, if I enjoyed it, I would search for more to set down for a year or 5, depending on what the sample smoked like for my palate.

Haha well at least SOMEONE thinks I should wait a little bit. I think i'll compromise and give it a week to settle out in the humidor, and I'll give 'er a try on Friday. I'll report back with my findings!

I'd have to agree with Tampa here. If you only have one, best to wait a month and let the cigar settle. If you are really considering a box purchase, it's best to smoke the cigar after it has acclimated to the settings of your humidor.

Well, I gave it try tonight, despite my inclination towards letting it sit...

Initial draw was very good, taste of dried fruit (sweet raisin) and cocoa. First puffs gave off a lot of smoke, and the draw was flawless. Overall, the draw and burn throught the smoke was excellent.

This cigar.....surprised me a lot. It was so...mild for a RA! I detected hints of spice and white pepper at times, but it never really changed or evolved. Just a smooth, almost sweet smoke with none of the punch i expected to see. I really got the feeling that this cigar hadn't decided what it wanted to be yet.

I think it definitly needs a year or two before trying again, just to see how it sorts itself out. Lots of aging potential - I'm sure the spices will solidify and come out more boldly with some more time, but at this point, it's closer to an ERDM than a RA...

Shoulda waited! 8.8/10

Recommended to buy and hold for a year, then give it another shot. I certainly will.

Sounds like a Ramon Allones, all right. I'm sure it will show its true nature in good time. Thanks for taking one for the team, Chance.

After "aging" them for a couple of months, I made the mistake of burning one of these little beauties. Mistake? Yes, because now I can't keep my hands off of 'em. These are downright delicious; reminiscent of the RA Belicoso: not as bold with a bit different flavor profile... maybe a bit less pungent with more "spice cake". Very sweet and savory. Quite approachable and one of my favorite cigars right now.

I have a box sitting at the post office just waiting for my work day to end before being liberated.

Chance,

there must be some inconsistency from box to box (imagine that!), as the few I've smoked were STRONG! They are destined to become classics in 2-5 years for sure. Mine are dark reddish and oily.

I recently smoked one & also found it quite strong. Bought a box & smoked another- also quite strong but a bit harsh. I think these will be great smokes in a year or so. To my taste, similar to the German RA Belis in taste, but the German ones are more accessable now.
