EricM Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I'm getting a humidor cabinet and heart felt beads will no longer cut it when it comes to humidification (Correct?). I'm looking for suggestions on EH machines. What one's to avoid? Other posible options? Tips and Hints on using them etc... model I'm considering http://www.canadahumidor.com/products/Ciga..._XL-107-12.html Thanks Eric
Tampa1257 Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 FYI, Heartfelt Beads will work in a cabinet humidor. I have a Aristocrat Cabinet Humidor which has a "Set & Forget" electronic Humidification unit, which I use during the summer months, but use beads during the winter months. It is your choice.
Tampa1257 Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Good Lord!!! The Cigar Oasis II is a good unit, but shop around, the price that your link has in quite expensive, if that unit is what you want, I believe you can find it at a lot better price point than that.

armedak Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 In your climate, beads will work just fine if you use enought of them for your space size and maintain good air movement.
BolivarSmoker Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I have the same humidifier in my cabinet. It holds about 2000 cigars and the Cigar Oasis II works well. The fan runs constantly so that the air is circulated well. I also have a smaller cabinet that holds around 1000 cigars and I use the Cigar Oasis XL Plus. It also works well. I would recommend each unit depending on the size of your humidor. The Oasis II is pretty big, whereas I was suprised how small the Oasis XL plus was when I received it. Another thing about both units, the digital humidty read-out is off, so make sure you have calibrated digital hygrometers handy. I have posted the link to where I purchased both my humidifiers (and humidors too, for that matter). Hope this helps. http://www.tampahumidor.com/sd4/department...ation-10148.cfm

My cabinet holds 3000 cigars and is about 24 Cubic feet of space and would require close to 5 pounds of beads.. Doesn't seem like a viable option.
sfordham Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I'll second the Heartfelt beads comment - I have them in my cabinet and they work great as a "set and forget" system for me. After using beads I wouldn't bother with an active system personally.

I check my water level about once a week or so. Sometimes I might need to add a little, sometimes not. It depends on how much I open my Humidor. As soon as I open the door, the digital read-out plummets, then once the door closes, it climbs back up rather rapidly. As for the beads, I keep some around in case the Oasis suddenly stops working, but I don't have one single bead in either of my cabinets right now.
anacostiakat Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 This one gets my vote hands down! The Accumonitor! I have both Aristocrat Set and Forget and Avallo Accumonitor and I like the Accumonitor much better.
Taino Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Over the years I've tried almost everything for humidification and there is nothing as simple and reliable than beads. Beads are no brainers. I have a friend who's a very well known violinist. His violin is worth some absurd amount of money and he relies on beads. That convinced me after all. All my cabinets have them and work fine. I have a small walk in humidor in the farm and that's the only one that I have with an electronic top of the notch piece of crap, always gives me headaches... You just have to find out the right ammount of beads for your cab... and yes they use some space but nothing compared to the constant pain of electronic stuff... IMHO
samb Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I use kitty litter, it works great and its cheap. The benefits of the beads are there... But about 5 pounds will take up alot of space that could be used for cigars.
Jesuscookies Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I have a cabinet that holds 3000 and I use both. I have a moist n aire humidifier that churns out the humidity, and 2 pounds of beads to regulate the RH at 65%. All beads will work, they will take up a lot of room.
WYPirate Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I've been using a Cigar Oasis XL in my fridgeador for nearly 2 years now. I can leave the humi alone for 2 months at a time with confidence. The only fault with the COXL is the lack of extra fan ports. Without fans, I have "humidity zones" in my 'dor 65%RH on the top shelf, where my top shelf cigars rest, with the RH increasing in 5% increments the lower in the cabinet you get. I need to make some modifications to get the RH balanced.
bigfunkyg Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I recently replaced my Cigar Oasis XL Plus with a pound of Heartfelt beads and have not looked back. (500 count humidor) The unit a stable humidity but found it couldn't hold a proper 65% and trying to lower it was a hopeless cause. The beads cost about half what the Oasis does.
Fuzz Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 How does the Cigar Oasis handle high humidity? Can it lower the humidity level or just raise it? From all I've read about them, the Cigar Oasis does not remove excess humidty. It will release additional moisture once the RH drops below the set level, but if it is above, then it doesn't do anything.
Bartolomeo Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I use beads and an Oasis in my Vino.......63-65* and 62-65%RH.........Pretty solid combination..........More beads control more fluxuations like opening/closing of doors, etc..........Never have enough beads Great thread but I suggest move to the Humidor section to keep things in order Bart
NitrousPurger Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 i have a cigar oasis ultra mounted to the lid of my desk top humidor and it works very well. alot better then foam alone and gives peace of mind knowing that you dont have to check it nearly as often. i got mine from my local cigar shop for $60 USD but the retail is a little higher. definatly worth the money in my opinion and im sure the bigger units work just as well
thechenman Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Never had luck with these electronic humidifiers. Have used a couple different Cigar Oasis units in the past, but they always created mold issues. Ended up with beads and sometime Boveda packets, and haven't looked back since.
paulhabano Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I recieved my Aristocrat M17D THC w digital temp & RH control 38" wide x 36" high x 19" deep and it has been running for 4 days and I'm going to stock it with my sticks today.
Stiks Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I've been looking real hard at the accumonitor for a build I'm planning. Looks like a real solid system. I think doulbled with beads or KL it will be rock solid.
