bassman Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Loved the 05 & 06, missed out on the 07 & just picked up a six pack of 08s. These are powerful full bodied wines. Anyone else like them?
aavkk Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 never had "the boxer" Steve but definitely a Mollydooker fan. I also like big fruit forward reds most of the time and the Aussie's do that style for a better value than CA IMO. Check out the reds from Portugal, man there are some great values and tremendous quality there.
perfectform Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Love Mollydooker. The Maitre D' is one of the best Aussie cabs I've tried. I've tried all of them except The Scooter and still waiting to open an 06 Carnival...Another great Aussie wine maker....
Shelby07 Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Mollydooker is one of my favorite wineries. I don't think they know how to produce a bad wine.
Colt45 Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Check out the reds from Portugal, man there are some great values and tremendous quality there. Yes! The only problem for me is that I have to really hunt for them (I can't have wine shipped from out of state). I'm on the lookout for Quinta Do Vale D. Maria..... On a side note, I've started in on the '06 Vietti Nebbiolo Perbacco. The '05 may have been just a tad fuller in body, but it really is a great wine. It's one of those wines I have no problem recommending to anyone.

lemmycaution Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I love Mollydooker wines as well. The only one I tried that I really didn't care for was their sparkling shiraz, but that's just my preference-I know people that like it a lot.
bassman Posted October 4, 2009 Author Posted October 4, 2009 I'm no expert, but I'm getting the impression that like in Argentina, there's not much quality variation in vintages. It more what the "house style" of the winery that makes the difference.

It more what the "house style" of the winery that makes the difference. i think that is key in most places. in australia, some regions have significant vintage variation. others like the warmer regions such as mclaren vale and barossa certainly experience vintage variation - try an 04 in comparison with the much weaker 03's as an example - but it is a little more muted.
GP012 Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I just bought a bottle of the '08 Boxer last night, but am unsure as to have for dinner with it. Someone recommend lamb, which caught my attention after I had some excellent, panty-dropping lamb chops earlier in the week at a new restaurant in town. So what would you guys suggest? Lamb, or cut of steak... maybe hanger?
anacostiakat Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Well I guess I have to swim against the stream so to speak. I picked up a bottle of The Boxer to try a week or two ago from the local beverage store. I do not like this wine. Now I honestly don't remember if it was 07 or 08 as the local had never carried it before to my knowledge. At least I dont remember ever seeing it. Very tannic and just did not like the overall flavor. That is why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream.
