Hi guys

My girlfriend is going to the Philippines in a couple of weeks and has offered to bring back some cigars.

Are there any in particular that are worth picking up? As I'm new to cigars, my experience is (very!) limited to Cubans and the odd Dominican.

Appreciate any suggestions!

Wil.

I don't think I have had a Phillipine cigar I have really enjoyed. I have had some good Indonesian cigars but zip from the Phillipines.

My experience however has only been about a dozen. If someone out there has had a good one then let's give Wil a hand.

Thanks guys.

Humidor is still pretty full after recent trip to Cuba, so unless there are any suggestions of good ones maybe I'll give it a miss!

my only suggestion would be to send her to the duty free for cubans but if you are well stocked, forget it.

A philipino friend of ours brought back some cigars for me a few years ago. "Flor de Filipina" Corona Largas, lonsdale sized things. She got 10 in a varnished BN style box with my name engraved in the wood and the cigars have bands with my name on them. Nice presentation, not as tacky as it sounds and that box could be handy for travelling when it's empty. The whole lot was about €12 I think.

I've smoked two of them I think since, they have a philipine filler, binder and an indonesian wrapper, I've had worse cigars. There's a little spice to them.

Edit. Here's the website http://www.tabaqueria.com/cigars_flor.html (I hope that's ok?).

The personalised boxes aer really quite nice for the price, quadrant hinges etc.

Years ago i used to smoke Fighting Cock (I think they name the new cigar after the national champion cock every year) and Double Happiness.

Both were very decent and very distinctly different than the Cubans, Dominicans & Nicaraguans that I usually smoked.

If you havent had them and are a cigar lover you should try them just to know what they are making in Phillipines.
