Kangaroo495 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Deal all, I'm going to Barcelona on Thursday and need to find a decent place to buy cigars while I'm there (unfortunately there is no CC in Spain!) Anyway, just wanted to pick up a couple of singles for smoking while I'm there, don't want any boxes or anything serious. Don't have a potable humidor, so I can't take my own smokes with me unfortunately. Would appreciate your help on that. Cheers.

laficion Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Hi Kangaroo495, If going to Barcelona, you owe yourself a visit to these 2 places, great welcome & service and you can go every day just for a few sticks CASA GIMENO Rambla de les Flors,100 08002 Barcelona At Gimeno's, ask for Marco Lopez, you'll get a fine welcome. you can also ask to visit the cigar walk in cellar, downstairs, just beautiful L'ESTANCO de LAIETANA Via Laietana, 4 08003 Barcelona Also great service and great choise of Habanos downstairs in the cellars. Have a great time, Barcelona is a fun city.
Kangaroo495 Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 Excellent, thanks guys! As far as I can see, Gimeno is a short walk from the apartment where I'm staying. That'l be my first stop. While we're on the topic, any suggestions for good restaurants/bars?
laficion Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Hi again, In Barcelona, you have Bodegas all around the city, you can go to any and I'm sure you'll have a great time. you have quit a few in and around la rambla. If you're on the Rambla and going down towards the sea port, on the left side of the st, look for a sq. that is called "plaza REIAL". nice place to hang out and have a cigar and drinks. If you're looking for some places to eat not far off the Rambla, here are a few. I have been to all and I came highly recomend them. LA VAQUERIA Deu i Mata, 141 08029 Barcelona Tel/ 93 419 07 35 RESTAURANT EMPERADOR Edificio Palau de Mar Pau Vila, 1 08003 Barcelona Tel/ 93 221 02 20 LA GAVINA Placa Pau Vila 1 Palau de Mar- Port Vell Tel/ 93 221 05 95 Cheers
cigarros Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 L'ESTANCO de LAIETANAVia Laietana, 4 08003 Barcelona Also great service and great choise of Habanos downstairs in the cellars. Hi everybody - Roger & Guy! I agree compleatly with Guy - L'Estanco de Laetana - the best choice! I've been there last year. Don't forget ask vendors about what you're lookin' for Cheers!
stargazer14 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 GIMENO is where i buy when I am there, nice shop, the only problem I have had is rude service. Downstairs is nice, but i'd ASK before walking down. There is also a small shop on the opposite side of the Ramblas about 2 or 3 blocks down.
stargazer14 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 another thing - dont go to bed to early. You think the town is fading about 9 or 10, but walk outside at 2 or 3am and the place is like a whole new city.

That'l be my first stop. While we're on the topic, any suggestions for good restaurants/bars? comerq 24 is absolutely superb but if you can wangle the time, head north to girona - about 90 k's - to el cellar can roca. i know people who have flown from australia to spain for no other reason than to eat there. it is one of the great's in the world. extraordianry wine list which is criminally cheap. and the new one - they re-did it all at a nearby site a few yars ago - has a magnificent lounge with an amazing walk in humidor. has some cigars i'd never been able to see anywhere else. some conde naste or other mag recently rated it number five on the planet (el bulli which is nearby, number 1, though you need to book decades in advance unless you know someone). definitely worth it for lunch or overnight. my fave restaurant on the planet. also in barcelona is cal pep, a famous tapas bar. no bookings so get there early - think it opens at 12 - as there'll be a queue and if you don't get a seat first up, you just hover around behind someone till they leave. xampenet is also famous for tapas, especially the anchovies. supposedly the best in the world, though there are a few places in madrid that are sensational as well. el valencia, a dirty brown sherry bar, is a must. love it. very envious.
Ken Gargett Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 another thing - dont go to bed to early. You think the town is fading about 9 or 10, but walk outside at 2 or 3am and the place is like a whole new city. very true. last time i was there, a wine company was holding a party. printed invitations said it was to start at midnight. for a corporate do! imagine trying that here.
Kangaroo495 Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 Thanks everyone! I've put all these places on the list of things to do. Also found a very interesting activity called "Cook and Taste". I'm gonna try that out too. Should post my thoughts on all these places when I get back. Adios!
