cigarros Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 I see that there appears new countries in the list: Andorra, Peru and India. It seems to me that their volume will be insignificant - like ER 2006 para Baltica ~ 408 boxes or less))
Stalebread Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Benelux still has three REs allocated, one of which is a Punch Small Club that was originally a Quintero for the French market (?). Whoa. I would sure like to be in the meetings where these discussions and decisions take place.
Colt45 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Thanks Trev. If regional distributors request certain cigars, how could a cigar be "not allocated"?
Stalebread Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 If regional distributors request certain cigars, how could a cigar be "not allocated"? Exactly. One of my questions the first time I saw the 2009 list with it's "not allocated" status. Kinda makes me wonder about the process. We know or can safely assume that some regions -- Asia/Pacific, Germany, UK -- have input into their regional cigars, the brand, size, maybe even blend. But maybe that isn't the case across the board.
mkz Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Thanks for the update Trevor! Now I need to get my hands on some Punch Northern Lights. Not really fond of the vitola in question but its "scandinavian"...
El Presidente Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 They can't be any of the 5 Global Marques. They need to be achievalble and cost effective (packaging/allocation of resources to produce). There needs to be no legal impairment. ie in some parts of the world Swedish Match still own the rights to la Gloria Cubana.
bassman Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 So it looks like the PCC RAs are confirmed but the SLRs are in limbo. I'd love to smoke SLR Piramides.
sounddust Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Andorra has its own RR? Great marque and interesting size though.
Ken Gargett Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 does no one else think that this is all becoming a bit too much? for me, they should really cut back so that any RR's are special. i find some wonderful and some far less so. i think they are just confusing a lot of people (and i am easily confused).
mkz Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Just checked with my "local" dealer and according to Habanos Nordic the Scandinavian RE will be out around September. The Punch Northern Lights will be available in boxes of ten.
Stormin691 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I agree Ken.. Just make your product- and make sure you make it damn good! I hate change, I would just love to see cigars made true and trusted and to the best of their ability... None of this boutique cigar crap. Just make what u make realiable and outstanding
Colt45 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I agree Ken.. Same here - more than a bit much. At one point, wasn't there a limit of one request per region per year? But they must sell. And they have a shiny second band......
perfectform Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I think it is a bit much as well...although I've found some of the best cigars I've ever had have been regionals.
El Presidente Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 We should remember the "glass half full" of regional release. Most distributors are "pushing the envelope" of Marque and vitola. We should celebrate this. Personally I agree that one RR maximum should be issued. Outside of that, bring it on!
Stalebread Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I think it is a bit much as well...although I've found some of the best cigars I've ever had have been regionals. I'm of the same mind. On one hand, I think the idea has become a bit overdone. On the other, the REs seem to create a lot of "buzz" and I appreciate that retailers benefit from that. Plus I have some outstanding cigars that are REs. Who's to say that I would have that same cigar, brand, blend if not for the RE program? Now I'm just hoping that the RA Celestials Finos will come in a 10-count box.
Stalebread Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 . . . Personally I agree that one RR maximum should be issued. . . . Rob, would you go so far to say one RR every two years per region? Or is one RR every year per region OK?
GP012 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Bolivar - Elegantes - Germany - 38 x 192 - Delicados - Release confirmed Excellent! I had heard rumors these may not make it out after release dates kept getting pushed back... glad to hear that the release is confirmed.
Fatcigar Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 They can't be any of the 5 Global Marques. They need to be achievalble and cost effective (packaging/allocation of resources to produce). There needs to be no legal impairment. ie in some parts of the world Swedish Match still own the rights to la Gloria Cubana. Global Marques include Cohiba, Montecristo, Partagas, Romeo y Julieta and H.Upmann or Hoyo de Monterrey or both???? Doesn't that make 6 Global Brands? Also, we don't see Trinidad or Cuaba as ER...."why?" Is it because ER's brands cannot crossover with that of EL's brands?? Enquiring mind wants to know
DrunkenMonkey Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Most distributors are "pushing the envelope" of Marque and vitola. We should celebrate this. OK. But while it may just be my impression (I haven't actually done the math), doesn't it seem like this "pushing the envelope" with regard to vitola always includes increasing the ring gauge? I don't understand why nearly every new release (and almost all of the RR's) are 50+ ring cigars. I wish we could have a wider variety of 40-46 ring cigars. I'm afraid things are moving towards where they are with the US market cigars, where every new cigar is offered as 5x50, 6x50, and 7x50. and then to shut those of us up who don't want a 50 ring gauge cigar they will occasionally put in a lancero, the complete other end of the spectrum. But to me, that leaves out the best sizes for cigars. well, at least my favorite ones. I mean, look through this list of RRs; there's like two sub-50 ring cigars in the bunch. Am I just that out of step with what people like to smoke these days? Those of you with a better historical perspective, was it always this way? I mean, there's like 4 or 5 coronas in regular HSA production now. That used to be the most popular vitola, right?
Colt45 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Those of you with a better historical perspective, was it always this way? I mean, there's like 4 or 5 coronas in regular HSA production now. That used to be the most popular vitola, right? We've had many discussions about this here...... I guess the bottom line is that they produce what sells, and discontinue what doesn't.
PigFish Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 When I think of all the good cigars that could have been rolled with that tobacco I want to cry! 50 ring... 52 ring... Jesus! I now know why McDonald's sells so many hamburgers. Like I have said many a time. If cigars were made of horse **** they would carry and EL (RE) band!
