It just goes to show that this guy was obviously racist his entire life but over the years, some people generally mellow out as they get older and they realise that racism is not so cool and gets you nowhere. Not the case with this guy and the SOB took the easy way out as most wackos do and shoot themselves...

A US newspaper also alleges von Brunn was linked to the Adelaide Institute, headed by Australian Holocaust revisionists Fredrick Toben and Peter Hartung. "We are witnessing today on the world stage a tragedy of enormous proportions: the calculated destruction of the White Race and the incomparable culture it represents," von Brunn wrote in Kill the Best Gentiles! "Europe, former fortress of the West, is now overrun by hordes of non-Whites and mongrels. "The same is true of Australia and Canada." America's Anti-Defamation League also alleged in 2004 that von Brunn wrote to an Australian Holocaust-denial email list that it was "time to FLUSH all 'Holocaust' Memorials". Von Brunn, a US World War II veteran, is accused of walking into the Holocaust museum on Wednesday with a rifle at his side and fatally shooting 39-year-old guard Stephen T Johns. Other guards fired back at von Brunn, critically injuring him. Von Brunn is fighting for his life in hospital. He was widely known for his white supremacist views and in 1981 entered the US Federal Reserve building armed with a a pistol, a shotgun, a knife and an imitation bomb. He planned to kidnap members of the Federal Reserve but was arrested and jailed for six years. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette newspaper alleged von Brunn was linked to the Adelaide Institute. "He held subscription and mail-order memberships in an assortment of far-right and anti-Semitic organisations, including the California-based Institute for Historic Review, the Adelaide Institute, a far-right Australian group, and, at one point, was nominated as a 'white racialist treasure' by a visitor to Stormfront, a neo-Nazi website based in Florida," the Post-Gazette reported.

The Wise Old owl Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 I hate to use something as cliche as a qoute from a "hit" movie, perhaps however this is the best explanation. "Some people just want to see the world burn". We shouldn't even waste our time trying to figure out this bastard and his nonsense. The best course of action is to edjucate our children and eradicate all of this "dark age" philosophy whenever and however we can. I hope one day children will read about this in their school history books and at their tender ages realize it was total madness, and find it inconceivable. I served my country for 21 years and although it may have been somewhat naive to think so, I believed I was a liberator and a facilitator for those in need, not a conquerer. It can be a challenge to serve in another countries' war zone and try to be a humanitarian and a soldier, but I never hated my enemies. This is exactly the kind of devils work that the United States is founded principally against, and as such it's another dark day in our history. Thankfully this is an isolated incident and hopefully in the end will serve to deter further violence from hate groups. God bless the family of the lost hero, who gave his life so others could enjoy freedom. I certainly hope his memory is enshrined fittingly in the museum.

During WW2 the US forces were segregated, but today is different. As a Platoon Sgt. I would absolutely tolerate no racial bigotry or discrimination in any form. I know I'm not perfect, but this has always been a touchy subject for me. A fellow soldier and good friend of mine, who served with me in Iraq, was killed last year in Afghanistan. I am white, he was black. I, and many other soldiers from my former unit, have a tattoo memorializing Sgt. Shawn Hill, so that we will never forget. I don't care what color/religion/ethnicity he was I'll fight anyone who doesn't like it. A good friend of mine is a Vietnam vet and his father a veteran of WW2. When the WW2 era 84th Infantry division had thier reunion a few years ago in Asheville NC. my unit provided a color guard for the ceremonies. When the flag bearers walked in, one of them ( a black soldier) said " XXX Damn! The fellow next to him said "yeah, you're the only black dude in here". (except for the color guard all the old soldiers were white, and in thier 80s) Now, that was funny, in a way, but still to this day it reminds me the there is too much intolerance in this world that will ultimately lead to no good end. Even those old WW2 vets welcomed the entire color guard, though. OK no more ranting. Good Night!

Maybe this is technically true but then again, I suspect it is not. It was an extreme incident in DC at a symbolic location carried out by a known bigot. It made the news. I think there are probably other less visible incidents of violent bigotry around the US and Europe that don't make the news. My point is that we should not let ourselves be consoled or lulled by thinking that this was an isolated incident. All forms of bigotry -- racism in general and anti-Semitism in particular -- are never very far beneath our civilized surface. If I am not mistaken, a rise in anti-Semitic violence has been documented for 2008 in both Spain and the UK. Nor can anti-Islamic intolerance be discounted. In short, our immediate future may see more outbreaks of violent bigotry, not fewer.

There is a local African saying: " A snake gives birth to a snake" You can teach/preach/lecture people like that until you're blue in the face, but they will never change and neither will their children that were poisoned by such ideology. And they in turn will poison their own children, the madness is endless. Hence the saying, "a snake gives birth to a snake".
