Havent been able to get into Dexter...

But when my wife and I found LOST, I think we watched 3 seasons worth in 1 week. We'd stay up until 4am watching the DVDs.

I've been looking for a new tv series on dvd. I'll check out Dexter.. Anyone have any other suggestions?

KG, no surprise to me that you find this program stimulating......

Jerome, I don't know if you've seen any of it, but I found myself enjoying Entourage - don't ask me why. Weeds is a bit entertaining as well.

Colt.. I do watch entourage. It's a good show...

Mad men is a great show too.. Maybe just because I'm in the same line of work.

Some friends I have in the US recommended I watch a show called "the Wire" - we haven't seen it here yet, but it is available on DVD - what do you guys reckon?

Dexter is great! I can't wait for the new season to start. I would start from season 1 to get the whole story about him. Enjoy...

IMO, The Wire is by far the best television series I've ever seen. I highly recommend it, but it's one of those shows you really need to watch all the way through. Some might find it a bit slow or boring in the beginning, but if you stick with it, I think you'll be blown away. It's really literature posing as a cop show.

Dexter is pretty good too. I don't know about the availability of the show on DVD, but there's been 3 seasons aired so far, and the fourth is scheduled to air this coming fall.

channel 9 showed 'the wire' over the last few years. was on quite late. terrific stuff.

did start with season 1 of dexter. love lost. never tried heroes. enjoyed the first season of prison break. don't think we have entourage here. mad men just started on free to air. but hard to go past 24. (now that buffy has finished).

My favorite modern tv show aired only one season. Firefly

To wrap up the loose ends, they made the movie Serenity, if you havent seen it, dont, buy the Firefly DVD's and watch them, then watch serenity. Best character development I've ever seen in such a short time..

The best writing i've ever seen too..

"The Wire", fantastic show !

I believe the ABC will screen it later this year (in Aus.) but it really is worthwhile getting the DVDs.

Very gritty and realistic with a lot of dark humour and great acting.

I like what I have seen of "Dexter" too. But as always the TV networks have dicked around with it endlessly. Showing it one week, not the next, different timeslots etc...

guys, 'the wire' has been shown in australia. it was late night on channel 9. went for several years. i missed the first series or two. think there were about 7? seriously good stuff. be great if the abc were to rerun it.

no one has mentioned 'west wing' another big fave.

i think firefly was josh weldon of buffy fame? saw serenity, not firefly.

dexter was not too bad here. 10 had it and showed it late night sundays, mostly. they'd miss a week and then show two. i just tape them until the series finishes then watch the lot. do that for anything that looks interesting. great to hear another two series of dex.

anyone read the book?

Good thread Ken.

I was always a big fan of Twin Peaks. NYPD Blue was always a favourite as well. And for some reason I always enjoyed The Practice.

But since then, the main TV shows to get my full and undivided attention have been:

* Deadwood

* The Sopranos

* The Shield

Some others I never saw on TV but bought as DVD sets have been:

* Carnivale

* Six Feet Under

I watched the first two seasons, but didn't get into the third when they played it recently. 30 rock, arrested development, scrubs, and entourage are all favourites. I think arrested development would be the funniest series I've ever seen.

we've just finished the second season. hoping a few more to come.

John Lithgow will be in all 12 episodes of the new Dexter season playing the Trinity serial killer and Dexter's new nemesis!!!

Great show! The Wire was an excellent show and I highly recommend it. Same for Deadwood.

Check out True Blood!!!! Great new show on HBO returning this coming month. A quirky vampire show set in Louisiana.

I love Dexter, one of my favourite shows by far and I'm looking forward to season 4. :)

I also enjoy Nip Tuck, Fringe, CSI (Original) and lastly NCIS. :2thumbs:

My hates would have to be; Lost (How boring), CSI New York, and my wife loves Greys Anatomy (I run as soon as I hear the opening credits!!) :excl::cowpoop:

Yeah, love the idea behind Dexter. It takes a few eps to get into but is pretty addictive. I also like the Shield and Madmen and need to get into The Wire.

If you all have an opportunity to see "The Wire" do so.

Some of the best TV to come out of America.

Was overshadowed by "The Sopranos" as they ran during the same years.

But is probably every bit as good.

and BOSTON LEGAL ?!?! no fans?! damn lineal people!, besides denny crane ans alan shore smoked cigars at the end I would've expected some sympathy towards fellow smokers...

Season Finale was Sunday, if you haven't been watching "Breaking Bad" on AMC you have been missing out!

Somewhat like Weeds but with a large dose of some pretty harsh reality.

Oh yeah, I love Dexter
