toasterhead Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Dear FOHers, Have you ever unloaded a cabinet and noticed the little piece of cardboard under the nice silk ribbon? It is there, I guess, to keep the ribbon from pinching or indenting the cigars at the edge of the bundle. I never really paid much attention, but as I was carefully unwrapping a box of Siglo 1 (PLM Jul 07) I saw the cardboard piece fall out and noticed a flash of color. Exhibit A white side Exhibit B print side (was toward the cigars) I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Those resourceful Cubans had used a toothpaste box to make little cardboard squares to protect their flagship brand of cigars. Brilliant! The cigars are just fine and smoke like a dream. No minty aftertaste. Maybe this is a new sign to look for when discussing authenticity... Cheers, Dave
Ginseng Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Very cool, Dave! That's the first time I've seen something like that. Just goes to show, they can make do! Wilkey
Colt45 Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 No offense to anyone - unacceptable. If this had been an NC producer, some would be having a field day. And yes, cardboard is cardboard.
El Presidente Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Hats off to them. The worker who came up with the idea was obviously solving an immediate lack of cardboard supply problem. Somehow I doubt HSA would agree
Moglman Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 That's funny right there Dave. At least they used something as opposed to leaving nothing under the knot.
jquest63 Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Coulda been worse: detergent, Mexican swine feed, etc. Thought the flagship brand would be better supplied with packaging components.
tugboat Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 I wonder how that conversation went…. Hello…Jose? This is fidel, hay man we go a problem here. We ran out of cardboard. Jose; Dude I told you to order some more. Fidel; Sorry man forgot, what do we do now? Jose; Give me a minute and I’ll think of something. Just look busy till I get there. Is that toothpaste box “Aquafresh”?….. Now I know why those Cubans have such white teeth.
b0rderman Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I think we'll all be on the lookout on our 07s now Dave, thanks for sharing
jeromeroselli Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Exhibit C: Wallet fatness a direct correlation to brand purchase. If they weren't cohibas i bet that wallet would be fatter!
Shelby07 Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Well, they did say they were coming up with a new Certificate of Authenticity? I like the way they got the word "Cuba" in there. Ingenious!
sounddust Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Look CLOSELY for a hidden message! Did you try UV light?
smk819 Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Very Suspicious, I would be wary if one of the cigars has a fresh minty taste.
zuma Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Very Suspicious, I would be wary if one of the cigars has a fresh minty taste. This is a hint that HSA, in collaboration with the House of Lars Teten, will be introducing quite soon a line of cigars (a-la open monte's) with a fresh new taste and anti-tartar benefits... Cohiba Menthols... "a fresh breath and clean teeth with every puff"

habanohal Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I have had some from a tide box, and others from candy boxes lol
greenpimp Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I have had some from a tide box, and others from candy boxes lol I think we may have solved the mystery why some cigars taste "soapy" eh?
