Colt45 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 In the recent ERDM CS video review thread, I was advised by Smithy not to smoke or review this cigar: "Colt you are not allowed to review a Connie 3 for the hell of it and post how good it is!!" Mindful of his warning, I went ahead and smoked one just the same, but in deference to his position as Paper Prince in RA's absence, I will abide by his wishes and not post a review. I will however say this: New smokers, do not smoke these! They are full and rich, tasting of leather, earth, and sweet spices. You will love them and buy more. You'll then be tempted by the No.2 and No.1. You will try them and love them as well, buying boxes of each. This in turn will push RA into a higher tax bracket. He will be forced to hide his filthy lucre in Swiss bank accounts and to give raises to his employees. The earth will spin off it's axis. KG will go straight and marry a woman. Don't do it....... Only slightly more seriously, with regards to this as a cigar for new smokers, I may just have to agree with Smithy here This cigar is all of the above and more. While I would not call it refined, it is smooth, which combined with it's concentrated flavor delivery make it deceptively powerful. It's ending of intense black pepper is anything but deceptive, and for those unaccustomed to these traits, it may prove just a bit much. I'd still suggest picking up a few to try, putting them away until you feel ready for the full flavored experience that is the Partagas Serie Du Connaisseur No.3.
kanuna Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Hmmmmm!!!!?????? you don't say, sounds like you didn't do it for the hell of it....lol
Tampa1257 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 The Partagas Serie du Connaisseur No. 3 is one of the finest examples of what a small ring gauge Habanos provides for the palate. One reminder, is that these need to be smoked slowly. Just my humble opinion, but they tend to provide "The Stairway to Habanos Heaven" for me.
Guest rob Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Hard not to agree with Chuck here. My only addition would be that I reckon ALL ring guages under 40 should typically be smoked slower than usual.
demiurgic Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Ah, I remember this little bugger. Got 2 of them from Czar in a sampler and saved one for my wedding day. I remember that it was really hard to draw, but I Was excited as it was the first Cuban cigar I had ever smoked from Czar, besides the fast I had just gotten married, and there were some fun bits when the draw eased up and I actually tasted that little flavor powerhouse. Very nice stuff. This was last september. I have Small Ring Gauge Lover, Tampa to thank for including this one on the sampler. Think I'll give it another try at some point for sure.
kilroy Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I love the PSDC line. I haven't had a #3 yet but I've got both the #2 and recently put away a box of #1s... Thin gauge + Partagas flavors = Full of win!
laficion Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I'm with you on that one colt, the Partagas SDC is a wonderfull Habano. Excellent writeup
Ginseng Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 "I smoke a lot of Acid Kuba Kubas. How does this cigar compare?"
Jimmy2 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I had a box of the one's some time ago and they were bland never took to them must have had a bad box. But all i hear is how good these three's are from Rob ,Chuck and our well dressed member Ken for years. I have to make a call and get some samplers of all three sizes and see what everyone is talking about.
Habanos2000 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 "I smoke a lot of Acid Kuba Kubas. How does this cigar compare?"
Tampa1257 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 "I smoke a lot of Acid Kuba Kubas. How does this cigar compare?" Damn Wilkey, coffee shot out my nose when I read your post! LMAO My sinuses aren't going to work right for at least week now!
harwellplant Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 the whole serie du con line is the type of cigar that i don't smoke very much, so the boxes and singles that i have tend to sit for a while until i reach for something different from my mainstays. in that context, they are exceptional cigars.
Colt45 Posted February 28, 2009 Author Posted February 28, 2009 "I smoke a lot of Acid Kuba Kubas. How does this cigar compare?" You, sir, are obviously a man of refined tastes. My suggestion would be to bypass the Partagas altogether, and head straight for the Guantanamera line.
Evo03 Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I'm smoking a Feb 07 Connie #3 right now. For me, they're a great morning cigar.
asmith Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Colt, you had to do it didn't you! Like a red rag to a bull. Nice review mate.
PigFish Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 The SdC line is an exceptional line of cigars. When I think fondly of some of the best cigars that I have ever smoked one of them was a SdC #3. A properly made small ring CC can be one of the very best smoking experiences you will ever have. These behemoth marital aid surrogate cigars that they are marketing today can't stand up to the shadow of these cigars. I am really glad that I read this today! I have no open boxes of SdC cigars and that means I will have bust a virgin box tomorrow and smoke one. Ahhh... the powers of suggestion! -Piggy
smk819 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I only have 1 #1 left, I must get more. I think I prefer them to the Cohiba Lancero. I am also a lover to thin gauge cigars and a self confessed Patagas *****.
