habanablue Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Aussie members of the board who were watching the most recent episode may have seen this anomaly: George Freeman, owner of the seedy casino which welcomes bent cops and pollies is seen in last nights episode (Epi 5 I believe) with cigar in mouth. I only had a quick look, but from the yellow and black band it was def. close to looking like a Cohiba. The show is set in the 1970s and follows AUstralia's underworld figures (for FOH's internatioanal members). No way Cohibas were available back then! Just thought I'd share....

Good pick up I have only seen episode one and I'm sure I saw the grey haired dude smoking a cigar with a yellow band. Did have too good a look but it got me thinking about what it could have been. I think you should offer your services to the 9 network as a set/cigar consultant.
sounddust Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I'm a big fan of classic 60s/70s Hong Kong movies and I've noticed that the cigars smoked in these productions always have their bands removed. However, those bosses always had a servant with a gorgeous humidor on hand, literally. Although I'm sure I saw a Punch box once...
Guest rob Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Its weird watching Underbelly and recognising the names of people (and families) I knew - who used to live only minutes from where I grew up... makes you realise how close the lines between reality and fiction really are.

Don't tell us Underbelly 3 - A tale of Canberra will be about you mate!
Guest rob Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Not so far. But some of these characters are people I met at functions like weddings, birthday parties etc.... Some of their kids went to my school as well. Canberra is a small place after all (back in the 70's and 80's there was less than 250,000 people here.
sharks Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Some of the guys in Underbelly I actually had to deal with in my current occupation. Lots of threats made etc but nothing over the top which I dont get on a day to day situation. In the end the majority of them were banned and not allowed on the premises.
maalouly Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Most of these families are still around and they still envolved deep in corrruption. Not sure if you guys remember the half a Billion dollar bust of XTC last year. We have alot of organised crimes around and I wouldn't be surprised if alot of cops are on the payroll of these gangs. Who cares anyways as long as hey aren't affecting our lives, it's a choice that we make, you either go down the wrong path and you live smart. Top show though and I love it! in regards to the cigar I Ddin't think it had a band I am downlaoding the episode now and will let you know will attach photos of my findings!
skid11 Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 George Freeman, owner of the seedy casino which welcomes bent cops and pollies Are you going to argue with him Good pick up.
maalouly Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Alright I think you're wrong, it doesn't look like a cohiba to me more like R&J I have attached images to it for your to look at.
Warren Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 You mean there is actually other stuff in that show besides bare boobies.
Guest rob Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 You mean there is actually other stuff in that show besides bare boobies. The blonde chick has an absolutely amazing set...
habanablue Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 Nice pick up Elie, I only caught the last frame. There is some slight yellow and black in there. Could be wrong though. Will see if any future shots of bad guys with cigars proves more conclusive. Cheers
anacostiakat Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Damn! Sounds like a good show. Anywhere I can watch it in streaming video? I'll have to wait years to see it probably otherwise.
asmith Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 You mean there is actually other stuff in that show besides bare boobies. Wait a minute there were exposed breasts in this show??? I missed all that and only saw the murder and former football international Ian Roberts getting dropped by a kick to the balls that made me wince.
maalouly Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 To the people who aren't in australia or have missed an episode you can downlaod the catch up TV that channel 9 is providing now. Here is the link ... http://video.ninemsn.com.au/catchuptv/sect...ame=underbelly2 Cheers, Elie.
rckymtn22 Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I downloaded an episode off of a torrent site last night. Plan to watch it tonight.

habanablue Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 I downloaded an episode off of a torrent site last night. Plan to watch it tonight. If you can get your hands on the first series of Underbelly i thought it was much better than what I have seen so far of Underbelly 2. With that said however, the plot really began to pick up in Monday's show. Epi 1-4 was alot of boob, Newton's bare arse and kiwi accents. Lets get to the murder and mayhem already!

Agreed, also seemed to be stronger , better developed characters in the first series. Like they played it up more to be larger than life, after all its entertainment not a documentary.
Warren Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Yeah the name of the new series should have been Underbooby. A tale of two titties
Guest rob Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Yeah the name of the new series should have been Underbooby. A tale of two titties lolol
rckymtn22 Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Watched the 4 episodes and am looking forward to watching Episode 5! Is it worth checking out the original series?
