Since I have maybe smoked a total of 3 or 4 cigars with an 08 box code Im not qualified to respond on that. Are we talking the single best cigar we smoked or a particular vitola that we most enjoyed? If the latter, MY cigar of the year would have to be the POS FEB 07 RASCC, runner up goes to PLM FEB 07 Siglo IV's. If the former it would have to be the 2 LLN AGO 03 Siglo VI's I smoked. Both were the 2 best cigars I have smoked in 08.

I just glanced at ten through six on CA's Top 25 of 2008 and there are two Habanos? You don't say!

As for me, my favorite cigar of the year has to be.... Partagas Lusitania. It's out of a 3-pack so I don't have the date code.

The only cigar with an 08 box code I've smoked is a single Cuaba Piramides. My favorite cigar during 08 has been multiple codes of 06 BCEs. Simply spended earthy cigars.

My understanding is that CA doesn't base the year's CC's on the box code date but whatever cigars are widely and commercially available during 08...typically everything released and reviewed by CA in 08 would be 07's and 08's with maybe some 06's thrown in. My number one is the Partagas 898V (based on a couple of different codes and months from 07)

The best cigar that I had the pleasure of smoking for the year of 2008 actually qualifies for the box code if that's what we're talking about but it was also the most memorable cigar and it was the new H. Upmann Mag 50 just a splendid cigar for me....................................................................YEAH!

Cigar of the year by Cigar aficionado has been released today, So, What's your cigar of the year?

The 08 SIG VIs I tried I thought were very good and showed enormous potential. Those and my MAG 50s are all I have so far and I have not touched the MAG 50s.

'08 partagas 898V.

Nothing else even comes close.

Except maybe '08 CoRo or Mag50

Well, excluding the crazy rare stuff like the book humidor etc....

I would say the Montecristo Sublime, which every one I have had has just been amazing.

Next up would be the Cuaba Piramide, who knew they could make a cigar like that?

Followed by the Upmann Robusto, which is dwindiling in supply.

I would have to say that I was most pleasantly and consistently surprised in 08 by the Magnum 50. Others were the Punch Petit Corona, Cohiba Robusto and the Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure two (excluding yesterdays poor showing).

These three were my surprise packets for 08. Of course there are others I also reach for and are favourites but these three cigars pushed their way into my rotation and did so with a rocket.

i know naming custom rolled cigars really doesn't help most members of this forum but at the very end of our havana trip, in early 08, the other guys all took off homeward. i had a few more hours at the airport as i was going the long way via spain for a week or two. as per usual when stuck at this airport, i took myself to the little area upstairs, out of the way. i had a fantastic book - 'sacred games', a beer or two, and lit up a large hamlet. i love hamlet's cigars - if i had one criticism it is that occasionally they are way too young but that is hardly his fault. of all the hamlet's i have smoked, this one was the pick. it was one of, if not the greatest cigar i have ever tried. just glorious. no doubt would have improved even more though i have to wonder how it could. a couple o hours of absolute heaven.

second, i think the monte sublimes we tried pre release in havana.

more recently, though they just fall into this year, was the cohiba esplendido i mentioned recently on the forum and a glorious bolivar gigantes from 2004 i had a few nights ago. stunning.
