El Presidente Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 We like to assess the Christmas Party Index (CPI) as a gauge on how the local economy is going. The CPI is the number of Christmas Party Invitations (non family) you have received for the month of December. 2008 locally looks pretty thin on the ground. Down about 60% locally. Everyone is having staff function and maybe a few suppliers "in house". Whats happening to the CPI in your kneck of the woods? Things are tough here. My mother hasn't even called
sepp Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I don't know about the CPI but the local news reported that alcohol sales at at least one retailer are up over 300%. The retailer is reporting that there are more consumers purchasing but the purchases are less quantitiy and lower quality. More people drinking cheaper hooch, what does that tell you? Merry (hic) Christmas...
dragon Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Even during the best of times I never got an invite to anything from anyone, and this year even my wife told me her employer said that spouses were specifically not invited to her firms holiday party due to cost constraints.
kmax Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Even during the best of times I never got an invite to anything from anyone, and this year even my wife told me her employer said that spouses were specifically not invited to her firms holiday party due to cost constraints. At least thats the story she told you. J/K!
Fuzz AI Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I'm up to 3 invites, all from the same dept. Seems we're not feeling the pinch... other will when we hike up the price of groceries and petrol to cover our Xmas parties!
Spartan Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 So far I have only 2 pending (way down from last yr.) and both are non-smoking...this SUCKS!
shrink Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I'm a buddist.. Well, are you going to any reincarnation events... again?
yossie Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Well, are you going to any reincarnation events... again? We've been taught so. By the way, James bond is a real person?
Warren Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 We've been taught so. By the way, James bond is a real person? Yossie Mate , don't mention that name around here I still have night mares
habanohal Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Money down and Suicide rate is really climbing
tsolomon Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 They're all holiday parties now instead of Xmas, but my wife's usual corporate event has been cancelled and they will lose the deposit on the room. Sounds like they might get some funding to hold something in-house. I work for the government and we never do anything as we have to be PC.
Homebrew Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I am catering 6 christmas parties, but they are all going on a stricter budget this year. Last year I catered 9 parties, and they were much more lavish. Dave (A.K.A. Homebrew)
broozer Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 i'm never invited to christmas parties, but i usually play one or two every december. not this year thank goodness. they are boring as hell. bruce
bolivr Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I am sure I am not the only one to notice a fairly steady decline since the end of the 1980s? My wife worked in advertising back then....wow, those folks knew how to throw a proper party. Will we ever see such dedicated debauchery again?
SmokinAl Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Will we ever see such dedicated debauchery again? Feel free to drop over to my place any Thursday, Friday or Saturday.
Bill Hayes Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 1 client party 1 staff party 2 group parties So far, 2 supplier parties with more to come. Advertising industry last hoorah before slashing of budgets next year. Luckily I work on alcohol products. One of the only markets to do well in a downturn.
Fatshotbud Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 My CPI is up again for the second year running. This can no doubt be attributed to me not showing up at any invites the last two years?
