cigargirl85 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I expect this post to elicit (a lack of) excitement equalled by only Ken's post re: the debut of Bruce's new song in the Cowboys vs Skins game, but... THERE'S A NEW ALBUM TOO! 14 tracks, with the E Street band, released Jan 27th! Bruce's website for more info: http://www.brucespringsteen.net/news/index.html Oh dear, I'm out of the closet now, aren't I?
cigargirl85 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 More of the same Brendan O'Brien sugarpop drone. Yeah, I have to admit I'm not thrilled he'll be producing again. 'Magic' was a great album, but the 'Wall of Sound' type production did obscure some of the individual E-Streeters' contributions and, even more criminally, made in a bit hard to hear Bruce's lyrics on occasion. But to be honest, I can live with all that because, well, it's Springsteen and he's head and shoulders above any other artist around (in my opinion). *runs and hides*
cigargirl85 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 "Magic" sounded insincere to me. I had a disconnect between the material and the production. As bad as "Lucky Town" sounded at the time, it sounds so much better than any of the artificial O'Brien techniques. "Wall of Sound" was not artificial, it was big warehouses full of live musicians and Phil Spector toting a gun to get the sound he wanted, not digital layering and effects. Sorry, I probably should have expressed that better, but when I said 'Wall of Sound' I was talking about the effect, the way it sounded, rather than how the sound was achieved. It didn't sound especially artificial or insincere to my ears, I just missed the simpler, almost 'live' sound that you get on earlier albums like 'Born to Run' or 'Darkness'. The lyrics on 'Magic' were in that class, and it's Springsteen's lyrics that make his music stand out for me, and from that perspective I'm looking forward to the new stuff. Two albums within less than 18 months - quite a treat. I'm hoping for another tour too, because the 'Magic' one was incredible.
El Presidente Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Jen.....you know you have just made Kens day
Tampa1257 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Bruce Springsteen is the Halftime Music show during the Superbowl here in Tampa on Feb 1 09. Wonder how much of his old and new music he will perform live?
Ken Gargett Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 fantastic news. any new cd by bruce means a good year. ta for this. can't wait. as for the half time show, you'd have to think that new one, working on a dream, i think it was called, will be one. time for three or four songs? born to run. then? given he is unlikely to tour down here for a long time, i'm looking forward to it.

Gargett, not sure that you realise what just happened but I will refresh your memory and hopefully next time you will do a little better. A hot chick, who smokes cigars, found this forum, thought of you (not sure why), and started a conversation about a rock star (not sure why), El Presidente even helped your chances by not bagging you (not sure why), and the best you can come up with as an opening line is "Ta for this"??? Good God man have you fully lost it?

asmith Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Are you truly surprised?? Not really, but I still have hope for at least a slight improvement in his form. I also know that this thread is going to rest in Gargett's verbal spray about gays etc etc. Again still hopeful that he may have some new material for me.
Colt45 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I also know that this thread is going to rest in Gargett's verbal spray about gays etc etc. Doesn't the fact he's so enamored of bruce tell the story?

I can't help but think of the Simpson episode when Homer was concerned that Bart was *** and he came out with this classic line. "They ruined all our best names like Bruce and Lance and Julian. Those were the toughest names we had!"
Colt45 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 "They ruined all our best names like Bruce and Lance and Julian. Those were the toughest names we had!" I don't mean to cast aspersions, but did you read KG's diatribe in the Macallan thread? Talk of getting drunk and hooking up with a bunch of Turkish marines. not that there's anything wrong with that......
