Agreed - we have a lot of work to do, and the only way to do it is to pull together

» Take care and leave the country if you so wish.

That is absolutely hysterical coming from a CALIFORNIAN :lol2:

I do my part to serve my Country on a DAILY BASIS my friend. (do you?)

Seriously, as of now 40% of my paycheck goes to taxes. The Bush tax cuts will expire (instant tax raise) AND Obama will impose further taxes. 2nd amendment rights will be VIOLATED, 401k plans overtaken & reformed my the government. His views are NOT in the best interest of the American way. Socialism does not work, national health plan will not work. government control over anything DOES NOT WORK.

Obama spent 183 days in the Senate at which time he accomplished absolutely NOTHING (I challenge you to prove me wrong).

My prediction is that he will FAIL epically and blame his failure on legacy passed on to him from the Bush administration.

Keep the "CHANGE"

Please post a list of all the terrible things you believe are going to happen over the next four years because of Obama. Track exactly how much your taxes go up each year and let us know. It'll be very interesting to see which of these horrors you expect to happen actually do come to fruition and which are just baseless fears. Seriously, this is a prime opportunity to track how our lives are affected by the new president.

There is no where for disgruntled conservatives to go. Canada is an evil socialist country so that's not the answer for them. Where can the Republicans threaten to move to to escape the horrors of the Obama regime?

For the first time in 8 years I can actually be proud to be an American.

George Bush and Co. tore this country apart and diminished our respect and accomplishments world wide. Dubya is an embarrassment.

Make no mistake Obama's election was as much a message to Bush and his supporters as it was affirmation for Obama.

Whomever we elected will be left with a monumental task to make things better.

I believe Obama was the only man running who could give it a go.

I guess I would rather have "socialism" for the next four than the dictatorship of the last eight.

I wish our new President and all Americans good luck and God speed.

Ok, I'll try this a different way.

I urge all Americans who supported me to join me in not just congratulating him, but offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together to find the necessary compromises to bridge our differences and help restore our prosperity, defend our security in a dangerous world, and leave our children and grandchildren a stronger, better country than we inherited.

Whatever our differences, we are fellow Americans. - John S. McCain III, November 4th, 2008

Good post tigger.

I think John McCain would have made a good president. There were probably a lot of things in his campaign for the White House that he would have done differently if the choices were left up to him. I'm sure you must follow your party lines and your campaign advisers advice in this critical process. For what it's worth I think it was a poor choice of VP candidate.

I think his concession speech was fantastic and sounded like it came from the heart. I hope we can come together as Americans and better our country and the world.

» ...Obama' "reign of terror"...

I heard similar overwrought handwringing from conservatives back when Clinton was elected, and from liberals back when Reagan won.

I voted for myself. Sadly, too many Americans lack the vision to truly comprehend just how superior my presidency would be! We live in an imperfect world...

Actually, I should be made King. El Rey. Please start cycling petitions.

I wish more Republicans can have this mentality. Obama won the election, but his presidency has yet to begin and so many of you are already marking it as a failure. How about show a bit of optimism as Americans towards the next American President?

That's why I was SO damned close to writing in, 'Gregory Peck' or 'Christopher Walken' for president on my ballot!

McCain... no.. Obama... hell no... Peck... dead but would still be better... Walken.. oh hells yeah!

'President Walken... what is the central theme to your foreign policy platform?'

'Buckwheats.. all of them!'

I thought McCain was very gracious in defeat and comes across as a very decent fellow.

Still I think the world is very excited about Obama. Now he is here you should try and give him the benefit of the doubt.

After all he too is a very decent fellow who in my opinion has an amazing ability to connect with people.

I think he must be a man of extraordinary talent to overcome all of the obstacles and I hope he makes a great president.

And so ends the last US political thread on Friends of Habanos.

The majority get it right. How I would love to find a way to have indepth intelligent discussions with members here such as Shrink, Colt, Prof Twain, Matt and the vast majority. There is only one way to do it and that is to come from a position of "respect". Respect for others positions, thoughts, viewpoints. Respect for the underlying principles of this board.

Obama's victory yesterday was a time for congratulations, best wishes and hope. The race has been hard fought and won. As a rugby coach I would be dismayed if some of my players entered into such a post match display against a victor. I would be just as dismayed if they retaliated against a victor who baited them. After 5 years under my stewardship I would hope they have learn't that victory is personal and has nothing to do with a scoreboard. Respect of self, respect of others, respect for the tenet of the game.

To those members whom know they have crossed the line I ask you to consider the following.

When you are a FOH member and you post on this board you have a responsibility to maintain its priciples of fun, friendship, fraternity, loyalty. Loyalty does not relate to myself. Loyalty relates to the manner in which you interract with other members.

We all drop the ball occasionally. To those who have, learn from it, don't dwell on it and from this point on focus on "building" this community on the cornerstones it was based upon.
