I know that they are young, and our Presidante says that they have great aging potential. Just wanted to get some other opions on this Vitols before I go pulling the trigger. I have stuck my neck out. The recent ones I have tasted are coming along very nicely. On smoking alone NOW the Ramon Allones Estupendo and the Por Larranaga Robusto are more approachable/fullfilling. Yet, there is a secretive core or flavours from the Punch which get me excited. I want to be around when they truly come to the fore. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
shrink Posted October 27, 2008 Share Posted October 27, 2008 In order of preference: RA Estupendos PL Robustos Punch SR's I like the Super Robusto, but I thought it had less body and flavor than the others. Still, what flavor was there was good. If I had to describe it, I'd say it was a blend of RS#11 and CoRo. Very smooth, very sophisticated profile. Just a bit bland for my tastes. As for the RA Estupendo, I just smoked another yesterday from a SEP 06 box. I've smoked five or six, and all but one have had very tight draws which has lead to whispy smoke volume. It's a shame, as I can sense the underlying flavor, but the poor construction has rendered this moot. This one got pitched at around the halfway mark. I think they have a little more oomph! Just » my 2 cents worth. I agree! I recently tried a Punch Super Robusto and RA Estupendos that I bought from Rob and I definitely preferred the Punch. In my opinion the Punch had a far greater depth of flavor. The RA was just kinda bland. I've lately been wondering whether to get a box of the Punch Super Robusto or a box of the first-release H. Upmann Magunum 50. Anybody have any thoughts on which to get? I haven't tried the Mag 50 yet but the reviews on the first release are awfully convincing. I have to agree here on the RA estupendos. I have a cab of 50, and I smoked 6 so far. EVERY ONE without fail has been so tight that I had to toss them. Very poor construction .
