Need some info, I like the Monte Ed, HDM pettit robusto and Bolivar Royal Corona. How would you compare that to PSD4, RJSC or Cohiba Robusto? If I only have the cash right now I would order all 3 of them but I'm only getting two. Any word of wisdom.

Partagas Serie D No.4 is a sweet peppery (Green, Yellow and Red peppers) mixed with rich earth and leather. The 07's are smoking exceptionally well right now and I have recently heard from Skindiver who smokes a little over a box a month of the PSD4 that the 08's are just as good.

The Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill (I believe that is what you are asking about as I have never seen your abreivations of cigars before) is a nicely balanced woody medium bodied cigar. Nice for a mid-afternoon cigar but just does not have enough umph for after a meal.

Cohiba Robusto is always an excellent cigar, complex, honey sweetness, mixed with mild wood (cedar) tones, and some bean flavors. Depending on your palate and budget, I would go for the PSD4's and the Cohiba Robusto's, if the budget doesn't allow, you can not really go wrong with the RyJ Short Churchills.

Really a budgetary issue between the PSD4 and the CoRo.

Also the CoRo is a more refined taste or is a more subtle nuanced smoke to me. Depending on your palate (are you experienced with years of smoking? :-P ) you may enjoy the PSD4 better.

But you really can not go wrong with either. I would pass on the RyJ Short Churchills. My experience has not be good in general with them.

As I often find myself doing I have to agree with Chuck here. Personally, I have had some very average short churchill's while my experience with the D4 has been outstanding. Now in terms of the Coro I like mine a lot but they need more age. If you are purchasing these to smoke right away I would go with RASS, they are going to save you money and are more enjoyable young IMO. Let us know what you decide to do and of course how your choices are smoking once you let them sit for 30 days in your humidor.

I'm with Tampa.... great descriptions and excellent recommendations.

I never "got" the appeal of a D4. CoRos are too expensive. Go with a RASS or VR Famoso!

Your best bet is to buy the Robusto Sampler here and than you can pick the ones you like.

As i think RASS is the best robusto out there today .

I like PSD4 i would pass on the Cohiba Robusto as i really think they are overrated.

Get a box of PSD4 and RASS...

I wanna get the CoRo and D4, but keep the CoRo in the humidor to age a little bit and just smoke something else. I haven't tried other CC cause when I tried the Monte Ed and the HDM pettit robusto I sticked to it. I have had 3 boxes of each so far and just got my 4th from Liza. I'm going to get the CoRo and D4 for a christmas present for myself after I get back home from a long deployment. Thanks for the info guys.

I'm also in the PSD4 camp. I love the sweet spiciness of of its flavor profile. I've yet to smoke a RASS that blew me away. Just not a flavor profile that I like. RyJ SC is also excellent. To me, it has a very distinct black cherry underdone. The CoRo, is a cigar that I pull out for a change of pace. Its powerful, rich, and well balanced. You really can't go wrong with any of the three. Buy them all and you'll have a wonderfully balanced humidor...and add the JL2 for nice mild morning smoke.

All three of the aforementioned robustos are good cigars. However, I'd go for the PSD4, hands down.

Why? Well, the CoRo is a fine cigar, but IMO needs a few years to mature and develop the creamy, beany notes that makes it so special. The Romeo SC is too inconsistent, and probably also needs a few years to develop.

But the PSD4 is seemingly blended to smoke well in its youth. Lots of the characteristic Partagas wood, leather and spice, with pepper on te tongue and sweet spices on the finish. My favorite robusto, overall, and especially when young.

I would vote for the VR famosos/RASS, then the Coro and the PSD4. The PSD4, VR Famosos, and the RASS are great out of the box IMHO, but the CoRo needs a bit longer to get the right blend. :)

OK, Lets talk cigars that typically are NOT on everyones favorite list and deserve to be.

Juan Lopez Seleccion No.2

SLR Regios

HdM Epicure No.2

RyJ Exhibition No.4

Most people talk about RASS or VR Famosos which are excellent cigars and I love them as well, but these above are hidden dreams waiting for you to explore!

» but has everyone forgotten the vaunted Bolivar Royal Corona? :hungry:

The BRC was mentioned as a cigar that he already enjoyed, which is why it has not been mentioned again...........:-)

It really seems that it is difficult to pick the robustos or Herm #4's that DONT make the cut. Sure we all have different opinions but of all the smokes listed by everyone here I enjoy ALL of them including those from the havent been mentioned list. My final order of preference with price and youthful smokeability major factors:

1. Party d4

2. VR Famosos

3. RASS

4. Coro

5. HDM Epi 2

As a note, if you arent familiar with the skinny younger brothers or cousins of the RASS and CORO you need to pick a few up.

1. RA Small Club Coronas

2. Siglo I's

I get a more concentrated version of the Robusto in these- similar characteristics in terms of profile but more discernable and stronger flavors not to mention 1/2 or 2/3rds the price. Get em while there hot.
