Mr. Japan Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Finally I got my hands on a D5. So with all three the new LE for 2008, all FFB (Acronym for Far From Box), I have decided to smoke them on this week end for a brief review. MONTECRISTO SUBLIMES Sublimes 54*164 Colorado Maduro Perfect construction. Thick capa. Espresso coffee aroma, no ammonia at all even if we are talking of fresh cigar. Loose draw but still enjoyable Smoking start getting some nice wood flavour always with coffee. Due to freshness of the capa it burns from 2/3 with more difficulties. Ash is flaky Medium strength with a little evolution. I expected more from it as I had a good experience with previous two smoked in past months. Left it almost at beginning of 3/3 . Different from the Cohiba that has more a mou taste. This is a coffee/cappuccino flavour. PARTAGAS D. n.5 Petit Robusto 50 * 110 Colorado The construction is not perfect as there are several veins. Thick capa. Smell of fresh grass just cut and on the tongue in pre-lighting can feel spices. Good draw, very regular. Amount of smoke very big, The cigar grows in flavour, coffee is predominant but also black pepper is predominant. Ash is flaky Has a strong Fortaleza from beginning, maybe due to the length of the cigar, ready and good. I smoke it until last mm. and again I hate who decided to make these cigars too short with such cepo and aromas. This cigar has impressed me just like the petit edmundo, of course must be re-visited for confirmation. CUABA PYRAMIDE Pyramid 52*156 Maduro Good construction, firm and solid with a velvet feeling. Thick capa. Strong aroma of pepper and leather a prelude to the great smoke. Draw is perfect as I cut just 2 mm. The cigars is strong from the beginning and goes on for all the 3/3ds . Develops a nice chilly-hot flavour. In a blind tasting I would say it’s a Partagas. Develops in leather and toasted coffee. Due to freshness of the capa it burns from 2/3 with more difficulties Ash is flaky. Medium to strong strength, ends up leaving a great aftertaste, a cigar that in 3/5 A great pyramid that I believe will be a hit in the future years. This is been the last smoked but the one that has more impressed me. I look forward to buy some once on the market.
cigarros Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Good review! Have you any smokin' picks? Wanna look at them!
shrink Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Nice reviews, Gino. The Cuaba sounds interesting. I find it intriguing that you would have ID'd it as a Partagas in a blind tasting.
Tampa1257 Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Very nice review Gino, I am surprised by the Partagas like flavors from the Cuaba and hope to sample the PSD 5 one day. Thanks for taking the plunge as the first here to review the 08 EL's good job! Tampa
FireDigger Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Sounds like we have 3 winners! Thanks for the review.

Matthew Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Excellent reviews, information and photos. Thank you!
bassman Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Great info- thanks. I have yet to smoke a Cuaba that I liked, but ELs often taste completely different from the regular line & that Piramides sounds very tasty.
ehdg Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Tks for some nice reviews on these and the pics are very nice too!
Mr. Japan Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 I like to point out that these reviews are from cigars not on the market but obtained visiting Cuba and having some connections with factory's. It is quite common , THEY ARE NOT FAKES, but the actual cigar that will be on the market (in the box/cbn) may be different from thse pre-releases.:-D
