Need Recommendations for a Newbie Friend

Recommended Posts

One of my friends is somewhat of a newbie to Cuban Cigars. He's smoked Romeo No. 1 tubos and Punch Coronations before. He likes both - but probably likes the Romeos best. He'd like some input in what to try next (he's looking at maybe getting a box of one thing). Let me know what you think he should try next. I'd help him, but I don't think he's ready for Churchills and DCs yet :-D.

I'd be happy to recommend the punch-punch and upmann mag 46...great flavor in a manageable size @ a decent price...also some petite coronas and robustos...Boli PC Monte 4 and Cohiba Robusto, Boli RC Partagas D4 Juan Lopez No.2...there are so many great options in those vitolas....

Seems to me from the scant info we have about your friend, that Monte No. 4s might be a good starting point if he wants to buy a box.

Better still might be to have the Czar folks put together a sampler of 2 of each of 15 or so cigars that run the gamut of styles/profiles...

Personally, I believe that from the limited experience that your friend has had, that it is too soon to buy a full box of something that he has not sampled several of.

May I suggest that he consider a sampler of something like Bolivar PC, PL PC, Monte No.4, H.Upmann PC, RyJ Exh No.4, VR Famosos, JL Seleccion No.2, RASS to suggest a few, and I would recommend that he get 3 of each. That way he can sample a few to determine what his likes and dislikes are before spending the money on a full box, only to find out that he does not enjoy them.

If it is the PC you are interested in and he is itching to buy a "box", your friend might try a box of 12 Trini Reyes.

He/She gets the thrill of a box purchase at half the exposure.

I love this smoke and would recommend it to anyone.

Also in Robusto there are 3/5 packs of HdM #2 and Cohiba Robusto

without buying a full 25.

I agree with putting a sampler together, but if your friend is set on getting a full box, that he can

enjoy now and will enjoy even more as they age, the first cigar that comes to mind is the Partagas

Serie du Connaisseur No.3 - but that's just me.

Agreed. I'd also suggest 3 RASCC.
