It was a beautiful clear evening in the High Sierra, with a nearly full moon and a cool breeze drifting down from the mountains. So, I put on some Chick Corea, and went out on the deck to commune with the spirits of the night.

It has been a year, at least, since I had smoked one of these little firecrackers. Every single one, right from the gate, had the unmistakeable taste of black cherry. To me, this is one of the rarest flavors in all of Habanodom. So I was wondering how my sleeping beauties were coming along.

What a lovely little cigar. Golden brown wrapper, and uniformly firm in the hand, with just the right amount of spring to the touch. Simon Bolivar looked on proudly with his enigmatic Mona Lisa smile. The unlit scent was pure, ripe tobacco. Enough foreplay… time for the consummation!

Burn, baby, burn. My lips were met with a medley of peppery spices. The cigar opened with an onslaught of full-bodied toasty tobacco, leaving nuances of crushed black pepper on my tongue. Oh, and that elusive black cherry was still there… in spades. So strange, so delicious! Draw after draw, I held the smoke in my mouth, and the flavor, combined with the tartness, sweetness and peppery finish, created a veritable salivary explosion. I carefully focused on the black cherry essence. It was remarkably natural, not like a soda, or even a candy, but more like jam, or preserves.

The sensations were complex. Tart apple slices drizzled with lemon honey. Hints of bittersweet orange zest. Plump raisins dipped in white chocolate. Citrus and white pepper tickling my nose. All in perfect harmony. Every element was balanced in strength and complexity. A work of tobacco art, beautiful in its creation and its magnificent destruction.

The finish was memorably sweet and spicy. Strong, dark cherry essence with a crescendo of white and red pepper sizzling gently on my tongue. This is one of the most unusual and captivating Bolivars in my collection.

Everything was just right. The night, the music, and the cigar. I can sleep soundly now.

Guess I got the wrong Bolivars. My 04 PCs, BBFs & BCEs were all mighty bland.:crying:

Shrink, thanx fur the review. Cigars like this one, and the CG that your reviewed recently, seem to have a dream complexity that is not easy to come by (at least for me)... do you talk to your cigars?

Shrink, The review was excellent, but Chick Corea???

The 04 Bolivars that I have smoked have been nice, yet I agree with Bassman that most were bordering on the bland side, except the half coronas! Thanks for the review,!!!

A timely reference, since Return to Forever have reformed & are touring this summer. Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White & Al DeMeola. If you don't like that, King Crimson's back too.
